Universities Project

In order to update the Stonehill page to the wikiproject university format the following things are needed:

  • The history has to be completely rewritten
  • The Student life section needs expansion
  • The trivia section needs to be removed
  • Everything needs to be cited
  • The college ranking section needs to be completely rewritten and much more concise (i added an unbalanced tag to it because it is written like an advertisment)
  • ...

Alcohol Policies Section

I think the alcohol policies section is an important part of the student life section of this article. I understand that alcohol policies are not within the scope of most of the articles of universities and colleges on wikipedia, however with respect to Stonehill College the exceptionally harsh policies have a substantial influence on student life. I agree the length of the section could be shortened however it does warrant mention in the article for informational purposes. Rcurtis5 (talk) 22:45, 26 February 2008 (UTC)

Rcurtis5: Why do you keep insisting on including this alcohol policies section after people have repeatedly taken the time to remove it. It is an absolutely ridiculous thing to include about Stonehill or any college for that matter. No other college or university has such a section and it makes it seem like that is all people at Stonehill care about. Please stop putting this back in. It does not warrant such huge mention and attention in this article and certainly does not need it's own section. If you do feel the burning need to include something about this as you seem to do then I suggest a one sentence description without a separate title. Thanks. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.19.64.254 (talk) 16:01, 11 April 2008 (UTC)

General Talk

The whole stonehill's-marketing-department-wrote-this-article vibe needs to be fixed. Ajb2015 01:34, 22 August 2007 (UTC)

I think the interesting facts section should be integrated with the rest of the article and some items should potentially be removed Rcurtis5 14:53, 21 August 2007 (UTC)

The Stonehill Skyhawks entry needs reference to pressure from the NCAA as well. The text implies that there was none. It should also be noted that the "Crusaders" name is no less offensive. gharm 18:48, 5 May 2007 (UTC)

No it should not be noted that "Crusaders" is no less offensive, that is strictly POV. Not an irrational POV, but clearly POV none the less. -- 17:07, 19 July 2009 (UTC)

"Walleyball"? Is this a typo for "volleyball"? Tonywalton  | Talk 18:11, 25 August 2005 (UTC)

I had never heard of it before, either. A quick google turned this up. Sounds like gym volleyball except play off of the walls is allowed. Hence, walleyball.Slavakion 03:00, 26 August 2005 (UTC)

Maybe an external link to that site? Tonywalton  | Talk 12:38, 26 August 2005 (UTC)
Done. I wish I could add the Stonehill College crest, but I need express written permission according to the website.Slavakion 21:35, 26 August 2005 (UTC)

Changes

Can someone re-write the section on all the on-going changes to the roadways, etc. so that student nicknames for buildings "SpoCo", "The Sem", etc. are clearer? I'd do it but I'm going MIA for a while. Stoneice02 07:12, 6 October 2006 (UTC)

I rewrote the section as a list of changes and removed nicknames Rcurtis5 20:45, 21 August 2007 (UTC)

Roommate issue

Should the article now refer to news stories about a roommate's alleged involvement in cohabitation? See http://www.nbcnewyork.com/news/local/Roommate-Sex-Lawsuit-Stonehill-College-Boston-141205123.html and http://usnews.msnbc.msn.com/_news/2012/03/02/10565540-womans-lawsuit-against-roman-catholic-college-says-roommate-had-too-much-sex. Rammer (talk) 09:15, 4 March 2012 (UTC)

Since this relates to disability law, and the suit is receiving international media attention, I have created Lindsay Blankmeyer v Stonehill College, Inc.. From a legal viewpoint, this is a very interesting case. This article should have a brief mention of the lawsuit, with an internal link to the new article. Friendly Freeper (talk) 09:55, 4 March 2012 (UTC)
I just added a brief mention under the "Housing" section. Friendly Freeper (talk) 10:00, 4 March 2012 (UTC)
Thanks, Friendly Freeper. But the news is mostly about the student's allegation, in the lawsuit, that her roommate had caused repeated disturbances by having sex in the room with her boyfriend, a behavior which is barred by Stonehill's rules. Yes, an interesting case, especially if the plaintiff's allegation turns out to be accurate. So perhaps the reason for the real reason for the notoriety of the case should be unvarnished in this article. Rammer (talk) 03:06, 5 March 2012 (UTC)
Please feel free to add whatever you think would make the article better. Friendly Freeper (talk) 03:33, 5 March 2012 (UTC)

The section now reads:

Blankmeyer v. Stonehill College, Inc. (Case number 1:2012cv10378[1]) is a lawsuit that was filed against the school in 2012. The plaintiff, Lindsay Blankmeyer, who suffers from mental illness and is under the care of a psychiatrist, sued the school for allegedly refusing to provide her with reasonable accommodations in regards to her housing at the college, even after she had made multiple requests, including having her psychiatrist write a letter to the school.[2][3][4]
Blankmeyer had already been suffering from depression and attention deficit disorder before she started attending the school, and claimed that she was driven to suicidal depression after school officials allegedly refused to give her appropriate housing in order for her to get her away from her roommate. Blankmeyer claimed that her roommate's sexual activity was keeping her awake and making her very uncomfortable.[5]
Stonehill College regulations explicitly indicate that "Students must obtain permission from their roommate(s) for a guest to stay through the night.... Behavior that is intrusive to the privacy of the roommate(s) is prohibited... As a Catholic institution, Stonehill College does not condone cohabitation."[6]

Merge Discussion

Sorry if this is off-topic. For the most part, I do not care whether the merge happens or not. But I would just like to point out that, currently, Template:Massachusetts college football venues contains a hyperlink to [the article about] W.B. Mason Stadium; so, [I am wondering], what would happen to that [situation]? (if/when the W.B. Mason Stadium article were to become part of the Stonehill College article) - ? - Would it be changed to a hyperlink with a "#" sign, pointing directly to a section of the "Stonehill College" article? ...or what? Thanks! --Mike Schwartz (talk) 19:32, 12 October 2014 (UTC)

The article on W.B. Mason Stadium should be merged into this article. As a stand-alone article, it is not notable enough to survive a discussion at AfD, but it would help to expand this article. GregJackP Boomer! 23:27, 8 January 2013 (UTC)

The expansion of this article, including additional information along with photos will greatly increase its ability to exist as a stand alone article. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 65.96.130.138 (talk) 01:26, 9 January 2013 (UTC)

  • @65.96.130.138 - how is a very small stadium notable? If not merged, it will likely be deleted. GregJackP Boomer! 02:22, 9 January 2013 (UTC)
  • @ Arxiloxos - what is the objection? GregJackP Boomer! 22:14, 9 January 2013 (UTC)
    • I didn't have an objection--my prior comment was improperly changed by another editor. I can see a reasonable argument that the stadium is mildly notable--it had gotten substantial press coverage and I noted a source or two indicating that it has been used for at one national championship game (in lacrosse), but on the other hand it is true that small D2 stadiums often don't get their own article, and as long as this information is included in the appropriate place in the coverage of Stonehill, I think it's fine. --Arxiloxos (talk) 23:07, 9 January 2013 (UTC)
  • OK, I certainly understand when vandals refactor comments. I think that it is just better suited in the school's article, and not have to worry about it being deleted. Thanks, GregJackP Boomer! 01:14, 10 January 2013 (UTC)
Done as there seemed to be no objections – content has been placed in the "Sports" section but probably needs rewriting and tidying up. Richard3120 (talk) 00:14, 15 October 2015 (UTC)

Notable Alumni

David Simas is a notable alumni. He has worked in the White House as an assistant to the president and currently leads the Obama Foundation as CEO. — Preceding unsigned comment added by New nullptr (talkcontribs) 06:02, 9 September 2018 (UTC)

The "Notable alumni" section of such articles requires notability to be demonstrated by the existence of a Wikipedia article about the person (and there should be no red-linked entries). If you think David Simas is of sufficient notability (which he may be), please create an article about him first - a short (but sourced) stub would be sufficient. Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 06:26, 9 September 2018 (UTC)

Got it, I was trying to contribute something that could be built out later. I don't really know how to create a new article - but I imagine that would probably be reverted as well. Wikipedia is complicated and not user friendly. I had no idea the site was like this, but have been reading around the internet about how the site is effectively run by a small minority of contributors who make their own rules and revert any change they don't like. Must one be in this group to make any change what so ever? Didn't realize it was like this and won't be contributing in the future. Though I have made donations from time to time in the past to keep the site running, I think I'll feel fine no longer doing that. Peace. — Preceding unsigned comment added by New nullptr (talkcontribs) 00:58, 10 September 2018 (UTC)

The school itself finds David Simas a notable person since he spoke at the commencement ceremony in April - https://www.stonehill.edu/news-media/news/details/2018-commencement-features-obama-foundation-ceo-david-simas-92/ - but go ahead. Revert any change not made by the "right" person. — Preceding unsigned comment added by New nullptr (talkcontribs) 01:25, 10 September 2018 (UTC)

The rules are made by community consensus, and the notability rules are described at WP:N. If he satisfies that, you can write an article about him - if you are unsure of how to do that, you can use WP:AFC. Also, I see you have an invitation to the Teahouse on your user talk page - that's a very good place for newcomers to ask for help. I've also added a welcome message, which contains some links that you should find helpful. Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 05:46, 10 September 2018 (UTC)

Lifestyles of the Rich and Redditous: The Name Reckoning

@ElKevbo:, @EdJF: Can you fellas talk about what title you wanna link to here on the talk page? Editing the page back and forth to add/remove the link is blowing up my notifications. You might want to check out Talk:DeepFuckingValue#Requested_move_2_February_2021. jp×g 05:05, 5 February 2021 (UTC)

Wikipedia is not censored and the title of that article should reflect the subject's common name so we should include the current title of the article, whatever it is. If that changes then the text in this article should be changed, too. To do otherwise is to insert one's own POV into this article and sidestep the processes that should be used to change the title of that article. ElKevbo (talk) 05:57, 5 February 2021 (UTC)
