ethnicity

[edit]

We have a history of unsubstantiated claims of Serbian ethnicity here now, so it's high time to discuss it. The Croatian Bureau of Statistics knows of two villages called Pazarište in Lika, and the earliest data is from 1857 (Jovanović was born in 1828). The village of Gornje Pazarište had 810 residents (and it's no longer inhabited since 1953), while the village of Donje Pazarište had 433 residents (and now has 170). There is no data on ethnic composition of these villages there. His surname is a patronymic of a Serbian name Jovan, while his first name is the Croatian name Stjepan, so that doesn't tell us much. Was his religion recorded anywhere? As for the family origin, this page says they are Bunjevci, and generally references some books. I couldn't find much else. --Joy [shallot] (talk) 13:47, 6 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
