User:NatGertler, as you are familiar with the subject of the article, please source as much of the information as you can; your WP:COI has been noted but if you provide reliable sources then your edits shouldn't be a problem. I am uncertain which portions you feel rise to the level of "contentious"; the only things I see there that hit me as qualifying as that are "which has been considered a major factor in the origins of furry fandom." and the claim that Albedo 2 is very rare.
Tomorrow, I will try to offer some sourcing suggestions here on the talk page; as one of the sources is likely to be a book that I published, I would prefer that someone else verify them to whatever degree possible and integrate them into the article. (I have COIs with enough articles that I feel the need to tread lightly.) Based on the source listed here, I'm going to recommend changing the opening to:
