MD?

[edit]

Was he really an MD? I don't know if the editor of this article is an American and unaware of the difference, but in the UK this is a research/advanced academic degree which relatively few doctors hold: if he qualified solely as a doctor he would be a MBBS, BMBS, BM BCh, BM, MB BCh BAO, or MBChB. I'm unclear which he was -can it have a reference please? 81.157.194.78 (talk) 15:21, 30 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The title of his obituary in the BMJ ("Obituary of Stephen Wootton Bushell, C.M.G, M.D.") should give you a clue, but as requested I have added a reference to the The Medical Press and Circular which states that he was awarded an MD on 13th May 1868 -- at which time according to other sources he was on a boat to China.
