[edit]@Walter Görlitz: You violated WP:3RR with your latest reversion. You should have brought the issue to the talk page instead of violating policy by reverting for the third time in 24 hours. Please undo your third reversion and engage civilly on this talk page, this way we can avoid having to discuss this with a formal report at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Edit warring. Thank you. TrailBlzr (talk) 18:49, 14 October 2019 (UTC)
- No, I, just like you, are at exactly three reverts. See WP:3RR. You should have brought the issue to the talk page instead of violating WP:BRD, but it's too late for that now.
- The player's nationality is clear for now: he's Portuguese until he's capped for another national team. Having been called-up does not qualify. Walter Görlitz (talk) 19:40, 14 October 2019 (UTC)
- You are incorrect Walter. Also as I see it, you are the antagonist in ignoring the reasons for the changes being made.
- 1. Making an appearance is not the deciding factor. If a player declares for a team and never makes an appearance so long as he was eligible to declare then we might reflect that in his profile.
- 2. Stephan has filed his paperwork to play for Canada. This establishes his sporting nationality as Canadian. He is fundamentally unable to play for any other national team at any level from this point forwards.
- 3. The well established policy is that if a player is in some transition phase, we neglect the nationality in the first sentence in order to demonstrate and explain the situation in the second sentence / paragraph. This has been the norm for most of my time on Wikipedia, and the outcome of numerous discussion on WP:FOOTBALL project talk page. Koncorde (talk) 20:14, 17 October 2019 (UTC)
- I'm actually not incorrect, it is a longstanding guideline at the footy project, but clearly you're as ignorant of that guideline as you are of the truth. I'm not going argue against two of ignorant soccer fans. Walter Görlitz (talk) 05:08, 18 October 2019 (UTC)
- I can't be wrong Walter, this is the same outcome as at multiple different discussions on nationality at WP:FOOTBALL (including the most recent one, which included even GiantSnowman). And if you are going to accuse me of lying then you had best bring some facts to the table. You have been caught defending a ridiculous position using stupid revert summaries such as "he has not played for Canada since his first call-up in half a year ago, so it's unlikely that he will play for them" he was injured for several months, and was called up to the Canada squad on 9th October after declaring for Canada prior to his injury. You are committing WP:CRYSTAL rather than looking at the objective facts at hand such as the source under his International career. This tells me you either didn't read the article, or chose not to read the edit summaries by TrailBlzr. I will, for your benefit, clarify one more time:
- 1. Stephen Eustaquio is only eligible to play for Canada. He has declared his national allegiance to Canada. At no point is he available for selection for Portugal ever again. To suggest he is a Portuguese because he played for a junior team when he has subsequently declared for another national team is not only factually incorrect, but also illogical.
- 2. Where a player represents nation A and then later declares for nation B, or it is identified that they are only eligible for nation B at a later point, then the correct process is to refer to the players representation i.e. "X is a player who plays for Y and represented Z at youth level" as a past tense, ideally defining immediately following their actual representative status.
- 3. Where a player assumes the nationality of another country after the fact (such as Diego Costa) we use the structure "is a professional footballer who plays as a striker for Spanish club Atlético Madrid and the Spain national team." to avoid debates about his nationality (or dual nationality).
- 4. Where a player is a dual national and has never been called up by any representative country and there are discussions about who they may represent, that's where it gets a bit sketchy. But the best solution is to state "X is a footballer who plays for Y." and then in sentence two explain how "they are eligible to represent either Z or ZZ".

Additional Cup matches
[edit]Found additional cup matches played in the Taca de Portugal listed at Playmaker Total of 5 matches in 16/17 and 1 in 15/16. Soccerway only has the stats for the later rounds. Since I don't think Playmaker is considered a reliable source by wiki, I found the match sheet reports from the Portuguese Federation which shows he played in those matches. Putting these links here to avoid throwing a bunch of extra refs in the table.
