Date of birth

[edit]

The birthdate 30 November 1956 is rather mysterious. As far as I've seen, the only other original, online source stating this is Stephen Dillane's IMDb page, and indeed snapshots of IMDb from the Internet Archive show that the birthdate was changed from "1957" to "30 November 1956" back in 2006. You can see that change reflected in this article as of 19:53, 27 December 2006. I don't know what IMDb's fact-checking process was back then or to what degree people and their reps contribute to their own pages.

I do know that more authoritative, published sources (some of which are included in this very article) have put Dillane's birthdate in the year 1957. The very reputable Theatre World has a biographical listing for Stephen Dillane stating he was born 27 March 1957 in London, England. Records from genealogy websites indicate the same (though I know they aren't appropriate citations).

The relevant listing in Theatre World can be seen here (p. 227) via Google Books preview. This is from volume 57 (more info), covering the 2000-2001 Broadway season. I'm hoping to get some feedback here—e.g. whether anyone can corroborate the 1956 birthdate—before I make any changes to the article. --Dubbledore (talk) 09:27, 29 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  • I've gone ahead and changed the birthdate to a birthyear (1957), on the basis of WP:BLPPRIVACY, and the lack of definitive sourcing for a date. I don't think a date should be restored without some strong sourcing for it. --IJBall (contribstalk) 03:48, 15 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Follow-up: Someone on the internet recently unearthed this mini biography hand-written and supplied by Dillane himself for his Theatre World entry. "March 27 1957" in his own writing! This (along with the info I gave above, and even accounts I've seen from other fans) removes any doubts for me. Somebody here went ahead and changed it to March 27 already, but I've added the Theatre World citation. It's clearly time to bury the November '56 DOB, especially in the continued absence of any proof for it. --Dubbledore (talk) 19:45, 1 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
