Amendments

[edit]

I would like to make some amendments to this article. I am happy to have a go myself however should declare a conflict of interest in that I work for the Stefanou Foundation. www.stefanoufoundation.org

I'd rather an expert make the changes and have detailed them below.

Any advice please?

Changes to Article:

Born 6 November 1953 http://www.debretts.com/people-of-today/profile/81483/Stelio-H-STEFANOU

 Done--Gronk Oz (talk) 14:01, 3 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Known For: Founder of The Stefanou Foundation www.stefanoufoundation.org and of Accord Accord

Done - I swapped the order to reflect the relative weight given in the sources, and I did not use the foundation as a reference since it is a primary source, and already there as an External link.--Gronk Oz (talk) 14:08, 3 December 2015 (UTC)--Gronk Oz (talk) 14:01, 3 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Spouse: Susie Omer (m 2008)

  • Need a reference to support this.
is this sufficient evidence see video here http://www.ap.ambassadorsforphilanthropy.com/sstefanou.php — Preceding unsigned comment added by Tonypinkney (talkcontribs) 09:31, 4 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Nope - it's a nice video, but it doesn't mention anything about being married. (However, I can use the associated Bio for other purposes so your efforts were not in vain.)
Also - in some places she is referred to as Susie Omer, and others as Susie Stefanou. Do you know which is correct?
Done, and I noted {{citation needed}} in the body text since it doesn't seem to be controversial but it does not have a source yet.--Gronk Oz (talk) 02:11, 9 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Stelio Haralambos Stefanou OBE DL (1952) is a British philanthropist and businessman who was born in Egypt to Cypriot parents

Done - this is better wording, less convoluted.--Gronk Oz (talk) 14:10, 3 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

He founded a public services and infrastructure maintenance company, Accord, which grew to employ 4000 people. He sold Accord for £147 million in 2007 [2][3] . He then founded two charities: the Stefanou Foundation, based in Hertfordshire; and the Stefanou Foundation Cyprus.

 Done

He is a Deputy Lieutenant of Hertfordshire.[2][4]and will be the High Sheriff of Hertfordshire from April 2016 to March 2017. https://www.thegazette.co.uk/notice/2230571

According to the Sunday Times, his net worth in 2015 was £140 million.[1]

Partly done - There is a subsequent notice here dated 12 November 2015, but it still only says that he was "nominated ... as prospective High Sheriffs for the years 2016, 2017 and 2018. Their names will be submitted to Her Majesty The Queen and, if approved, each nominee will take office in late March or early April in the appropriate year." So I said as much; that he has been nominated. Once this is ratified, the article should be updated to reflect it.--Gronk Oz (talk) 14:59, 3 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Early life and business career[edit]

 A--Gronk Oz (talk) 12:23, 4 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

He studied chemistry at Imperial College London and in his early industrial career worked for Johnson Matthey and Esso before moving to John Doyle Construction in 1980.

Done - the Debretts reference covered it all except that he studied Chemistry (still need a reference for that).--Gronk Oz (talk) 12:23, 4 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Stelio Stefanou and his brother Stef Stefanou grew the John Doyle business and in 1999 instigated a de-merger. Stef Stefanou retained John Doyle as the construction company, while Stelio Stefanou founded Accord as a separate company to run longer-term public services and infrastructure maintenance contracts. Stefanou sold Accord in 2007.

Done - it needs a reference for the split of John Doyle, which I have tagged.--Gronk Oz (talk) 12:23, 4 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Public service[edit]

Stefanou established the Stefanou Foundation in the UK in 2008 with the main aim of supporting vulnerable infants and old people without a voice.

  • What is the reference? Need a reference...

Stelio is no longer a trustee of Tomorrow's People having stepped down in October 2004.Tonypinkney (talk) 11:20, 10 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
 Done--Gronk Oz (talk) 12:44, 10 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Expectant mothers and fathers join the programme during pregnancy and are supported to bring an end to domestic abuse, overcome the impact of trauma and nurture their baby’s early development. The whole family approach, starting in pregnancy, is innovative. The Foundation is initially running two prototype projects in Hertfordshire and in Westminster.

Done - reworded a bit, and omitted the part about being innovative because it's not up to Wikipedia to make a judgement on that. If there is a reliable source who says so then we could quote them, perhaps. I found a different quote from the police and crime commissioner instead.--Gronk Oz (talk) 14:07, 5 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Stefanou is personally funding the development and initial delivery of the Healthy Relationships: Healthy Baby programme within his overall funding of the Stefanou Foundation to the tune of £1.5m a year. [3]

Stefanou has been nominated for High Sheriff of Hertfordshire and will hold this role for a year starting in April 2016.

Stefanou established the Stefanou Foundation Cyprus following the country’s economic crisis, with the aim of developing initiatives to strengthen social cohesion and retain an entrepreneurial culture, particularly by supporting young people. The Stefanou Foundation Cyprus has introduced ‘Creative Classroom Training’ to Cyprus in association with the Cyprus Pedogogical Institute and Partners for Youth Empowerment, the international organisation that created this form of training to help teachers to boost their pupils’ creativity, self-esteem and entrepreneurial skills.

This is very recent, thank you for noticing. We can obtain some references a little later.Tonypinkney (talk) 11:15, 10 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Partly done - His establishment and chairmanship are there, with references. Can't see anything yet about the Foundation's programmes as above... --Gronk Oz (talk) 15:08, 15 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Stefanou is also a Board Member of the UK Cyprus Enterprise Council, which was established to boost prospects for Cyprus after the economic crisis, for example, by promoting inward investment into Cyprus, bilateral trade with the UK and a positive international image of Cyprus.

Personal life[edit]

In 2008, Stefanou married Susie Omer. She is also a Trustee of the Stefanou Foundation. Stefanou and his previous wife Rosemary Gordon were married for 22 years before separating in 1996, they divorced in 2003.[7]

Done, and I noted {{citation needed}} in the body text since it doesn't seem to be controversial but it does not have a source yet.--Gronk Oz (talk) 02:11, 9 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
It is Susie Stefanou, maiden name was Omer. Thanks for updating on the basis of the video, I will try to find a definitive statement from a register somewhere. How can one prove they are married is the question?Tonypinkney (talk) 11:15, 10 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

End of changes

Looking for help, many thanks.

Tonypinkney (talk) 14:33, 2 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

My advice would be to suggest each individual change that you want to make, rather then propose a whole rewritten article. Edwardx (talk) 01:08, 3 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks User:Edwardx Would it be easier to highlight the rewritten changes? And, I'd like to know is it okay to post the changes in here for debate/inclusion? Thansk Tonypinkney (talk) 09:30, 3 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks to User: Gronk Oz for the updates. I have a citation for some requests how do I now add it to my suggested edits? Repeat the suggested edit request? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Tonypinkney (talkcontribs) 09:29, 4 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I think it might be easiest just to put them in the relevant place above, like you did with the video. We can keep working on the outstanding items until we get them all sorted.--Gronk Oz (talk) 13:07, 4 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Tonypinkney - thanks for your patience with this. I have got stuck on a couple of items that need references, and you may be able to help with this. Firstly, is there any published material about the Stefanou Foundation Cypress; I can't find anything. Secondly, it would be good to have something about his marriage (even though I know that is not likely to be contentious, Wikipedia tends to be very conservative when it comes to articles about living people). In particular, which surname should the article use for her: Omer or Stefanou? Please get back to me at your convenience.--Gronk Oz (talk) 14:36, 5 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
User:Gronk Oz Indebted to you for your help in this article Gronk, much appreciated. I will find further info in due course and ask Stelio if he would like a picture too.Tonypinkney (talk) 11:15, 10 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Just waiting on a reference for the Stefanou Foundation Cypress. The other unsourced but non-controversial statements are tagged in the article.--Gronk Oz (talk) 02:11, 9 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Stefanou Foundation Cyprus will follow.Tonypinkney (talk) 11:15, 10 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Tonypinkney, I removed the reference to Tomorrow's People. Lucky I saw it, buried in the middle of the things that were already done - it would be better to add new requests in a separate section so they stand out clearly. Or drop me a note on my User Talk page (User talk:Gronk Oz) to alert me to them. Let me know when there is something about the Cypress foundation, preferably an independent source such as a newspaper article. The wedding is a lower priority and I can't imagine anybody challenging it; if it is mentioned in press coverage at some point we can plug it in here.--Gronk Oz (talk) 12:44, 10 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
User talk:Gronk Oz Found a website that evidences Stelio link to Stefanou Foundation Cyprus http://www.ukcec.co.uk/about-us/board - hope this is acceptable.Tonypinkney (talk) 13:31, 15 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Great start, Tonypinkney - what's there is good. Don't have anything yet to describe the programs the foundation runs, so I have not put that in yet.--Gronk Oz (talk) 15:08, 15 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Deputy Lieutenants of Hertfordshire Please add [Stelio Stefanou] to the list of DL in this category. Tonypinkney (talk)
