New York Times' "effect on man"

[edit]

What is the New York Times' effect on man - anyone know?

I will assume it is the woe that we see in the news every day. Marlith T/C 22:42, 14 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I've heard that the song is about the illeagleisation of cocaine. I'm not sure though does anyone have any info? Elcaballooscuro (talk) 01:37, 6 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
"illeagleisation", eh? Interesting.

Lyrics Inaccurate?

[edit]

I think the lyric is not about the New York Times "effect on man," the song lyric actually goes, "The New York Times are paid for, man." I think it's interesting to know that the lyrics as widely reported, including on the MetroLyrics link this Wikipedia article currently uses, might be inaccurate. These inaccuracies are not just trivial differences, they really detract from the song and make it much less, I think, than it would be had the true lyrics been accurately reported. I explain why here at http://thattherepaul.com/features/stayinalive.html. Is there a way to verify if I'm right about the lyrics, and if so, include a section on the accurate lyrics (assuming that they are indeed accurate) in this article? It seems a shame people have to go around thinking the Bee Gees wrote about shoes with "wings of heaven" on them and the New York Times "effect on man" and that the song ends with "Somebody help me, yeah," when, at least as far as I can tell, none of that is true. Lyrics?

[edit]

All other song pages on wikipedia I've seen have not had a lyrics section, or either have had it removed. I'm going to do the same as I don't see a reason to keep it. 71.30.162.28 22:04, 7 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

ATLS?

[edit]

Can someone please confirm this: This song is used as a speed reference for ATLS, it is said that the pace of this song is about the same that the physicians should use when performing CPR (Cardio-Pulmonar Ressucitation), which is about 100 bpm. is this true? at least: is it a true fact that this song is in 100 beats per minute? if it is true, then at least we can really use it as a reference. I couldn't find this reference in the ATLS 7th ed, neither on the ACLS. maaybe there is another different trauma book that would state this as a fact. (HelenoBR (talk) 01:11, 5 October 2008 (UTC))[reply]

This is very true, as I heard it on NBC Nightly News. --Danielign9 (talk) 00:17, 25 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

See e.g. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/27221281/ and Google 78.34.148.67 (talk) 16:29, 3 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I've heard it on NPR also. It was also referred to in a CPR training scene on the post-Super Bowl episode of The Office. That could be included too, if we're keeping all the other appearances of the song. Km9000 (talk) 18:24, 1 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I think this should be in the article. Another One Bites the Dust by Queen has gotten slightly less attention for being used in CPR, yet the Wiki article for the Queen song mentions it. 173.88.94.212 (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 01:11, 26 August 2009 (UTC).[reply]

No one at all has mentioned the irony of Stayin' Alive being used for resuscitation? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 125.254.89.248 (talk) 12:41, 6 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Why sentence about Nawalny?

[edit]

What does the sentence "On 22 August 2020, the Russian opposition leader Alexey Navalny has arrived from Russian city of Omsk to the German capital Berlin by a medical plane, while in coma after allegedly being poisoned with the military grade nerve agent by FSB (former KGB) operators.[92]" in subsection Stayin' Alive#Music videos have to do with this wikipedia article?

Previously it was written together with the assumption that someone made a cover of this song on the day navalny got poisoned but after a few edits it became this sentence, which makes no sense. https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Stayin%27_Alive&diff=prev&oldid=1020417293

Can I delete sentence?

Wrong Running Time in the single version?

[edit]

I don't wanna modify it, but I own the original 7 vinyl, and the running time (with the speed corrected to match with the CD speed) is 3:43, not 3:29 neither 3:25. Please, verify the single edit running time. Thanks. 79.146.27.99 (talk) 10:10, 13 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Jo/Darlene

[edit]

The article on Jo Stafford said she had a resurgence of popularity with her cover of "Stayin' Alive" as Darlene Edwards. Sounds like a cover that might merit inclusion. But I'm, ah, not going to do it. I have having my edits on covers erased. Thmazing (talk) 00:46, 16 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Oh: it might be worth mentioning that Darlene Edwards was her comedy alterego. Thmazing (talk) 00:50, 16 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
