Picture Placement

Hey Raffi,

You don't think the photos look better in their current placement? Why is that? I think it looks kind of silly with them both so small in the bottom corner. I think it looks nice with the picture of Satterlee Hall right upfront. What are your thoughts? I understand why you'd think it looks better the other way, as it conforms more to standard Wikipediing, but I do kind of like it this way. What do you think? Hope you're having a good time in London. - Jondude11

Hey Jon,
It's lovely to see someone I know on Wikipedia.
At one level, image placement is a matter of taste, but I was also concerned that some users with small screens would find the text sandwiched between the two graphics all but unreadable. (I tried looking at the article in 800x600 resolution; the only text you get between the images is "The State".) Also, users with slower internet connections may find that larger images, although pretty, take a lunchtime to load. Thirdly, I think it's a good design practice to have uniform image widths. It is also convention, perhaps for these reasons, that images go in <=200px thumbnails, and that no paragraph of text is flanked by images on more than one side.
I am having an excellent time in London! See you soon!

You know it's funny Raff, right now I'm on a different computer, which uses 800x600 and I see exactly what you mean. I'm going to make the image smaller. See you soon!

Faculty

Should Maurice Kenney be included in this list of notable faculty? Menkatopia 15:56, 3 April 2007 (UTC)

No. --starX 17:58, 3 April 2007 (UTC)
Could you explain why not? Menkatopia 18:01, 3 April 2007 (UTC)
Because he is neither very notable nor is he technically a professor. The department web page lists him as a "Writer in Residence." --starX 19:20, 3 April 2007 (UTC)
That's not exactly accurate. He is listed among the faculty of the university, and the department. The designation on the page lists notable faculty, of which he seems to be one. His notability comes from his many published works and editorial positions. In addition, he is a notable member of the poetry community for his position on gay lit. Menkatopia 19:28, 3 April 2007 (UTC)
Amazon probably isn't the most definitive source in the universe, but I didn't see any of his books there. Do you have any references to these publications? Also a citation referencing his notability re: gay lit? --starX 20:47, 3 April 2007 (UTC)
Sweating a deadline today, but I'll work on finding that. The Amazon thing isn't too helpful because many of his works are now out of print. However, his historical role in gal lit and native lit makes his contribution to the genres and the university important. Again, though, I'll work on getting some sources together this week. 64.122.82.126 13:46, 4 April 2007 (UTC)
There's actually quite a bit of Kenny's work available on Amazon, if you're still interested in his notbility. http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=maurice+kenney#/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=maurice+kenny&rh=i%3Aaps%2Ck%3Amaurice+kenny — Preceding unsigned comment added by 134.129.173.67 (talk) 20:59, 15 May 2012 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:Potsdam Logo.jpg

Image:Potsdam Logo.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 08:05, 6 June 2007 (UTC)
