Proposed merge of Milford Road into this article.

[edit]

It seems that since the Milford Road has long been a subsection of SH 94 we would be better to have one good article than two stubs. (Milford road would then redirect). dramatic (talk) 09:32, 13 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Description of discussion in ODT

[edit]

This merger proposal has been the subject of discussion in the Letters to the editor page of the Otago Daily Times: the originator of the Milford Road article (whose name escapes me, sorry) protested the merge proposal and some guy called James Dignan, introducing himself as a Wikipedia administrator, did his best to allay the originator's concerns by saying that the merge would improve both articles. Support

[edit]

This user concurs with His Grutness's letter (mentioned above) and supports the merge. Nankai (talk) 22:13, 13 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

This user also supports the merge, and appreciates Motorau's work on the Milford Road, Te Anau Milford Highway and Milford Sound Highway sections of SH 94. Daveosaurus (talk) 07:11, 14 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I support the merge - the two overlap in very significant elements, and would stand to lose little from the merge. 125.236.217.145 (talk) 01:09, 27 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Oppose

[edit]
  • I oppose the merger since the Milford Road is an iconic road and a notable topic. As a standalone article it is a lovely thing, all referenced and with pretty pictures... Ar-humm... If it were part of New Zealand State Highway 94 it would make the article unbalanced, sort of top heavy with info about only part of the road. -- Alan Liefting (talk) - 22:56, 3 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Actions taken

[edit]

I have now began the merging of Milford Road with New Zealand State Highway 94 and have added the images to the photo gallery I have put under its own section. If anyone is willing to help tidy up what I have done. I would dearly appreciate it. Andyman14 (talk) 13:51, 8 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I've had a quick look at the analysis of road names and major intersections. There's nothing much wrong with it - minor formatting only and I took out a couple of streets, one of which is only really a service lane and the other of which doesn't physically intersect with SH 94. I also changed the directions between Gore and Mossburn to show the road running from east to west rather than south to north. Incidentally, I think Te Anau would be a more logical break in the highway than Mossburn - is the Mossburn break due to some sort of change in the way the highway is administered? Daveosaurus (talk) 07:30, 10 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Cool, thanks for the editing, it does make sense to change the direction of the highway to north/south. I chose Mossburn because it is normally where tourists from Queenstown turn onto SH 94 from. Two breaks for Lumsden and Te Anau instead of Mossburn is also practical, but I'm not willing to change the distances because they take a while to measure and get relatively precisely, especially in the curvier partsAndyman14 (talk) 07:55, 15 June 2010 (UTC).[reply]

Potential to become B class

[edit]

This article is very close to meeting the B class criteria for the WP:HWY. An expansion of the history section, and a few more references would be all that is needed.Videomaniac29 (talk) 06:06, 27 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
