updating this article
[edit]This edit request by an editor with a conflict of interest has now been answered. |
I work at SAIF Corporation and we're interested in making this article (State Accident Insurance Fund) more complete and up to date. We'd like to partner with other past editors of this article, particularly valtronis and peteforsyth, in making these updates. Please let me know if you're interested, and how you'd like to proceed. Thanks — Preceding unsigned comment added by Dave in salem (talk • contribs) 22:45, 10 June 2015 (UTC)
- Please carefully read the Conflict of Interest guideline. While you are not prohibited from contributing, it is very difficult for you to be neutral and perhaps provide verifiable information.
- Perhaps you could provide a list of proposed changes on this page and allow interested neutral editors to act on them. @Peteforsyth: and @Valfontis: might step up if they have time. I'll keep an eye out too. —EncMstr (talk) 16:33, 11 June 2015 (UTC)
- Though I'm flattered to be mentioned, I'm not around much right now, and just about my only involvement with this is to have reverted some obvious COI edits 7 years ago, which is ancient history in the WikiWorld. It might be better to make your request at WikiProject Oregon and/or the paid editor help noticeboard. Remember that this can sometimes be a slow process but we try to help. Cheers, Valfontis (talk) 07:32, 12 June 2015 (UTC)
EncMstr: I'd be happy to provide the proposed changes here. Are there standard Wikipedia editing marks, for example for adding and deleting text? I searched the site and found none, though I suspect they're out there somewhere. Thanks User:Dave in Salem Dave in salem (talk) 00:04, 19 June 2015 (UTC)
- @Dave in salem: Don't worry about formality or convention. If you can propose additions (or deletions) which provide balance and neutrality with reasonably good sourcing, I am happy to incorporate them into the article. If any of it is questionable, I will solicit input from WT:ORE and other related WikiProjects as appropriate. To help get you started, adapt this suggestion of proposal:
- Add "abc" to the end of the sentence about "xyz"
- Replace "def" with "uvw".
- Delete "mno".
- Feel free to create your own method, just so that it is clear what you want done. —EncMstr (talk) 05:45, 19 June 2015 (UTC)
EncMstr: Thanks for the guidance. Here are my proposed edits. Sorry for the length, but the page hasn't been updated for years. I listed my reasoning in parentheses after each edit; hope that helps...
First paragraph, second sentence: add text in brackets: It provides workers' compensation insurance [and workplace safety services] for Oregon employers[, and claim management for injured workers]. (Reason for edit: more accurate description of the company)
Second paragraph: add to the end: A Board of Directors, appointed by the governor, oversees the company’s operations. Kerry Barnett is the current president and chief executive officer of SAIF. (Reason: more complete information)
Add new third paragraph: SAIF celebrated its 100th year in business in 2014. (Reason: provides history)
Delete current third paragraph: SAIF's practices have been the subject of some scrutiny and controversy in recent years. (Reason: Events are no longer recent)
Fourth paragraph, first sentence: add text in brackets and delete text after “competitively”: SAIF does not pay state income tax, which gives it the ability to price its policies [competitively.] more aggressively than it otherwise might, and take large profits as well. (Reason: Inaccurate – SAIF is a not-for-profit corporation)
Fifth paragraph: delete all text after “...61% of the vote.” (Reason: outdated)
Sixth paragraph: delete first sentence (Reason: outdated, anecdotal)
Sixth paragraph, second sentence: add “In 2005”; delete “also”; replace “Oregonians for Sound Economic Policy, specifically” with “a nonprofit group” (Reason: readers won’t recognize formal name)
Same sentence: add “lobbying” before “contract” (Reason: accuracy)
Sixth paragraph, third sentence: delete all (Reason: no longer recent; also no longer relevant since the bill did not pass and a related bill did pass in 2009 (see below))
Sixth paragraph, fourth sentence: replace sentence with “The investigation, however, determined that SAIF had done nothing wrong.6 (Reason: more objective)
Sixth paragraph, fifth sentence: keep as is
Seventh paragraph: delete all
Add all of the text below (indicated by "+") after the sixth paragraph: (Reason: provides more complete description of the company and of Oregon’s workers’ comp system)
+ In 2009, the Oregon legislature passed a bill, sponsored by SAIF in collaboration with Liberty Northwest and other peers, to amend the means of accessing SAIF's records.
+ SAIF’s Board of Directors has declared a dividend for policyholders every year since 2010, returning a total of $795 million to its Oregon customers.
+ In July 2014, former President and CEO John Plotkin sued SAIF over his termination by the board earlier that year. The case is still in litigation.[_] (link to: http://portlandtribune.com/pt/9-news/225841-88470-ex-saif-chief-to-sue-over-firing )
+ Approximately 50,000 Oregon employers and just under 600,000 workers (35 percent of Oregon's workforce) are insured by SAIF.[8] The company employs about 900 people in eight offices around the state.
+ Due in part to workplace safety efforts, Oregon’s pure premium rate for workers’ compensation insurance either declined or stayed the same for 23 of the past 25 years. Oregon officials estimate that has resulted in cumulative savings to Oregon employers of more than $17 billion.

- Okay, I see your suggestions and I looked closely at the first few and they look good. I have a time consuming and increasingly important project I need to wrap up before I dedicate much time here. If no one takes any action, ping me in a few days and I'll go through it carefully. Thanks, —EncMstr (talk) 06:28, 11 July 2015 (UTC)
EncMstr: just nudging you about this project... Thanks! Dave in salem (talk) 19:03, 16 July 2015 (UTC) No doubt you've been busy with other projects, so nudging you again about this one... Dave in salem (talk) 21:21, 12 August 2015 (UTC)
