Gary Gilmore

[edit]

Does Gary Gilmore, who campaigned to receive the death penalty in the USA, come under this category?--Maltelauridsbrigge (talk) 17:28, 4 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Christian martyrs

[edit]

One has to ask: would some early Christian martyrs be considered cases of "suicide by proxy"? is there any discussion of this possibility in the secondary literature? Reading these ancient saints' lives -- which in some cases are based on transcripts of the actual court cases -- one gets the sense that the judges honestly did not want to order the person to be executed, & looked for some way to conclude the case in a less severe method -- say confiscation of property or exile. Yet the accused would repeat, "I am a Christian! I want to die for my belief!" They embraced a belief of Christianity very few would be comfortable with nowadays, despite their strength of faith. -- llywrch (talk) 04:53, 28 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

distinguish from Suicide by cop

[edit]

Are there accepted criteria from a WP:RS that properly distinguish Suicide by cop and State-assisted suicide? FeatherPluma (talk) 03:12, 9 July 2012 (UTC)
