Talk:StartCom
Untitled
[edit]I find it a tiny bit ridiculous that there isn't a page on StartCom. It's a issuer of free SSL certificates recognized by Microsoft since the sept 2009 update of root CA's and Windows 7 yet there isn't a Wikipedia page of it? Besides, it has a Linux distribution which Wikipedia doesn't cover. Wikipedia has a page on every tiny little fork of every Linux distribution! I think I'll recreate this, as the main reasons for deletion were Spam an no notability. The first part is a solvable problem, the second seems to have improved a lot over the years (e.g. Microsofts inclusion of approved CA's) --Dtech (talk) 13:19, 27 March 2010 (UTC)
- I left you a message on WP:RFF. You might look at the history of DWM (the linux window manager) for some insight into WP:N relative to software projects. --Nuujinn (talk) 22:26, 27 March 2010 (UTC)
Limitations
[edit]It's unclear what can happen after the one year is up on the free Class 1 certificate. Can it be renewed for free for another year? Can a second free one be obtained to continue from the first? Or is the only option to start paying, e.g. for a class 2? Also, the "one A per B" and "one B per A" items can probably be combined and better worded. -- Ralph Corderoy (talk) 23:25, 1 December 2012 (UTC)
Critiscism
[edit]Removed last referenced sentence 19, it had no bearing on the statement. That again was 1 person's view when all the other comments/posters approved StartCom's methods — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2605:6001:F386:4600:1D40:ECDF:E98C:146D (talk) 03:20, 20 January 2016 (UTC)

Wholly owned subsidiaries, subordinate companies and all the fun stuff
[edit]I have tried to ungarble the various info related to the multiple purchases and restructuring, contained in the refs. Still, the infobox isn't perfect as StartCom (Israel) is "based" in Eilat, just its headquarters are in Beijing. Someone with more patience may try to make it even more pretty. Thanks. --grin ✎ 19:04, 25 October 2016 (UTC)
