Query re page move
[edit]Does anyone know why this page was moved to "Stapleton Stapleton-Cotton". All the sources I've found (including the Oxford Dictionary of National Biography) give his name as simply "Stapleton Cotton". Espresso Addict (talk) 19:53, 20 May 2010 (UTC)
- Surname changed fron Cotton to Stapleton-Cotton by Royal Licence dated 21 November 1827. 62.31.182.215 (talk) 20:38, 13 December 2011 (UTC)SJH
- No such change of name by Royal Licence is mentioned either in ODNB or in Heathcote; the London Gazette merely refers to him as Stapleton Baron Combermere or (latterly) Stapleton Viscount Combermere. Dormskirk (talk) 16:57, 9 February 2014 (UTC)
Sir Watkin Williams-Wynn as his godfather
[edit]I am suspicious concerning the statement (in footnote) that one of the godfathers of Stapleton Cotton, born 1773, Sir Watkin Williams-Wynn, has been linked with the 5th Baronet, born only 1772 - would the godfather in fact not be the latter's namesake father?Cloptonson (talk) 15:37, 30 May 2016 (UTC)
- Agreed, it is not very likely: I have removed the footnote. Thanks. Dormskirk (talk) 16:47, 30 May 2016 (UTC)
