Renaming?
Staple (textiles) redirects to Staple (wool) but I suggest it should be other other way around, since staple is often used to refer to other fibers such as Cotton. Thoughts? - PKM 18:27, 3 June 2007 (UTC)
- Sounds good. --Eyrian 18:52, 3 June 2007 (UTC)
- I agree- staple is used for all sorts of fibers, not just wool. Loggie (talk) 21:27, 26 February 2008 (UTC)
- Why are there so many separate articles: The staple, Staple port, Staple (wool), Staple right, Merchants of the Staple? Dictionary thinking. An inclusive article should give concise summaries of each of these, set in a general context: encyclopedic thinking--Wetman (talk) 03:34, 9 September 2009 (UTC)
- Hard to argue, but it's clear that this article is not a part of any of them.--Froggienation (talk) 08:32, 9 September 2010 (UTC)

Australia
Any reason this page is so Australia-centric? I believe sheep exist in other nations, so why only a single sentence which is not specific to the Australian standards? It is akin to looking up tomato, getting a short sentence about it being a vegetable and then finding the bylaws of the Pomona Tomato Marketing Association spelled at out great length. I know Australia produces a lot of wool, but honestly, after reading this I feel as if I know LESS than when I started. Well, I feel I could now sell wool in Australia, but I still don't know what a "staple" is. I know how Australia measures the strength of one, and what the market prefers, but not what a staple actually is. 68.49.147.180 (talk) 21:22, 28 November 2008 (UTC)
I agree, and will add the appropriate Globalization Tmeplate to the article. Michaeloqu (talk) 23:43, 8 December 2010 (UTC)
Removed the "?" from this section's title to make it work with the Globalization template. Michaeloqu (talk) 23:55, 8 December 2010 (UTC)
- This page is probably so Australian-centric, because OZ is the leading Merino wool producer and may well be the only one? testing staples before the wool is sold. Other sheep breeds do not usually have these expensive tests made. A quick check for "Wool staple" on Google did not reveal any other country returns. Feel free to add any other info available as my only sources are Australian. Cgoodwin (talk) 02:04, 9 December 2010 (UTC)
- Hear-hear. (and far from and not linked to OZ). Eddaido (talk) 05:43, 19 June 2011 (UTC)
