"Spruce"
[edit]Charles S. T. Calder's 1949 article, "Excavation of a neolithic temple" (search it at google) explicitly discounts the driftwood possibility.--Wetman (talk) 00:08, 17 February 2013 (UTC)
- Calder in EXCAVATION OF A NEOLITHIC TEMPLE page 191-192 says "no driftwood of spruce from America is known", and points out that the roof would require a lot of wood. The cited source in turn cites Scott, Antiquity, 1951, 151-3 in saying the wood presumably was driftwood from North America. The article follows the source in saying "presumably". I do not have access to Scott's article. If another source gives more information, such as the type of spruce, that should be added. Aymatth2 (talk) 01:58, 17 February 2013 (UTC)
- O.k. Norway spruce, given in Calder's paper, does have a Scandinavian sound to it. :~) Aymatth2 (talk) 02:13, 17 February 2013 (UTC)
