Good job. The article definitely meets the GA criteria, in fact I stumbled upon its' talk page mainly because I was wondering how come it was not a FA :) A couple of notes, mainly related to style:

  1. BE vs. AmE - I'd prefer the earlier, most of our 18th century articles use it. You know, favoured vs. favored and so on.
  2. The lead. The first para is IMHO way too complicated. It should give the general overview of who the guy was. Instead it discusses whose uncle was the guy in question. There's plenty of space for info on his family further down the road, no need to clog the lead with such info.
  3. Youth. Why did he spend his early years in Gdansk? It's but my curiosity though.
  4. The Familia is usually written with a capital letter, both in Polish and English works
  5. Tenses and consistency: most of the times the article is written in past tense, but all of a sudden "Poniatowski has to leave St. Petersburg"
  6. hetmans. It seems such foreign titles would deserve a definite article before them ("reducing the powers of the hetmans")..?
  7. "The partitioners". I understand it's a direct translation of the Polish term "zaborcy". However, it's not well-established in English literature. I would use "Partitioning powers" instead.
Thanks for the comments. My replies are below:
  1. Regarding WP:ENGVAR, I agree, as a non-native English speaker who was taught British English and now lives in US, I am sure I tend to transgress on ENGVAR quite a lot :) Unfortunately, I am also not the best person to fix that. If you or anyone else would like to make sure that the language is standardized, please go ahead, with my blessing.
Lead rewritten, is it better now?
Youth in Gdansk. Apparently his parents took him with them there during the War of the Polish Succession. Probably where Augustus court was for a while, and where they as his supporters were safer, through this is somewhat reading between the line as PSB does not clearly say that.
    Familia fixed.
Fixed the tense issue in this example.
    hetman. Ok.
I see partitioners used in almost a 100 Google Books in the Poland's context, including by Timothy Snyder ([1]). I think it's fine. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 21:04, 30 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I'll give this a skim tonight and note any remaining issues, since the first reviewer seems to have disappeared. Wizardman Operation Big Bear 15:43, 14 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Here are the concerns I found:

  • "He returned to the Commonwealth in 1754, this time" The year is noted just above, so maybe saying 'He returned to the Commonwealth later that year' would work better.
  • " throughout Europe, Russia and in the Ottoman Empire." rm in

Those couple things are all I saw, so I'm fine passing it after it's fixed. Wizardman Operation Big Bear 03:05, 15 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I expect to be able to work on this tomorrow (Sunday). --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 16:18, 15 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
