UK No. 1: Wynette's?
[edit]How could it take 7 years to be the UK number one single if it was Tammy Wynette's 1968 version? User:J 1982
Was re-issued in the UK in the 70s and reached number one then.
Patsy Cline cover?
[edit]Patsy Cline is listed as covering this song, which was written in 1968, but Cline passed away in 1963. This deserves some citation, or should be deleted. Robert K S 18:18, 20 September 2006 (UTC)
Thats ridiculous. Patsy died as you said in 1963 and the song wasn't even written until 1968. some people really don't know their music!
Bobby Vinton
[edit]Bobby Vinton also recorded the song at some point and his version definitely needs to be mentioned in this article. I may research and add the information myself if no one else does. Andrea Parton 04:07, 15 December 2006 (UTC)
Vinton's version, though definitely a worthy contender among remakes of the song, wasn't a major hit. Ironically, it was also produced by Billy Sherrill.
I think Bobby Vinton's version was recorded maybe a year after Tammy Wynette and Billy Sherrill wrote and recorded her version. I agree, his version does need mentioning because its brilliant on two levels. First off, in the later years Tammy used to say all you had to do was change the first line to "It Must be hard to be a woman" instead of "sometimes its hard to be a woman" which Vinton did. Also, as you said his version was produced by Billy with a more pop-oriented arrangement \. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.223.105.155 (talk) 19:21, 7 May 2009 (UTC)
Bemused
[edit]How any feminists can take offence at this record beggars belief. I think it all boils down to the old belief that many of those with plenty of academic qualificatons have got absolutely no common sense. If anything the record is critical and patronising of men eg "because he's only a man" etc and therefore an object of pity with the woman as the superior but charitable party. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.168.70.4 (talk) 16:35, 13 May 2008 (UTC)
GoldenEye??
[edit]"Stand by your man" is certainly covered badly by a Russian singer in a Bond movie, but I think it was "The World is not Enough". Somebody might want to check it out. 139.30.45.39 (talk) 10:45, 8 November 2010 (UTC)

What the KLF is going on?
[edit]1991, Tammy and the KLF collaborated on Stand by the Jams and there's no mention of that in this article? SchmuckyTheCat (talk) 16:18, 3 December 2019 (UTC)
- It's a totally separate song with different lyrics, a different melody and its own Wikipedia page: Justified and Ancient (Stand by The JAMs)
