Unnecessary detail
[edit]Maybe too much detail on his personal life - family members, etc. Unless they are notable, not sure they should be included, but won't remove without consensus.--Technopat (talk) 23:45, 14 September 2009 (UTC)
Explanation of detail on personal life
[edit]The intent of including personal info is to leave a trail for researchers of jazz history. In this case, some of the decedents have incredible source documents, scrapbooks, mountains of unpublished music arrangements and compositions, and the like. Many important periodicals (Down Beat, for example) lack adequate indexing. Knowing the name changes and marriages are critical for strengthening research related to this article. Many people in entertainment, especially those of the earlier part of last century, were known by other names.
The magic of wikipedia is that other nameless researchers, over a period, often make invaluable contributions that no single editor like myself could have possibly imagined.
At some point, perhaps the personal info should be edited (condensed). But, I recommend leaving it until about 2011 (2 yrs). Eurodog 14:38, 19 September 2009 (UTC)
