[edit]I think there is more than enough that can be said on each page. The US colleges are sufficiently numerous for their own page - provided it is adequately linked to the main pageNcox 11:19, 28 November 2006 (UTC)
"The Prussian General Staff properly dates from November 25, 1803 when the king ordered the reorganization of the previously existing Quartermaster General's supply staff into a true general staff... In 1808, however, Scharnhorst reorganized the staff, redefined more precisely its duties, inaugurated the division between Great General Staff in Berlin and the Field Forces General Staff, linked the achievement of staff positions to the Kriegsakademie, and instituted the beginnings of the system of dual command whereby general staff officers shared in the responsibility of commanders." The Soldier and the State, Samuel P. Huntington, p. 50, chapter "Rise of the Military Profession". I take this as evidence that the Prussian Kriegsakademie should be considered as a "staff college" in 1808. As far as "war colleges" are concerned, you can easily go back to at least 1706, when the Prussian engineering school was established (Ibid, p. 25). Bagsc (talk) 18:16, 11 May 2009 (UTC)
Ambiguity
[edit]I was expecting (hoping?) this page to be a disambiguation page.
Attempting to use this page for that purpose is hopless.
Hence, I'm constructing a new table here, and when it's in reasonable shape, I plan to migrate it into the article.
Everyone is more than welcome to help. Pdfpdf (talk) 09:44, 18 April 2010 (UTC)
New table
[edit]- Questions/assumptions
- Is sorting by continent useful? I don't think so. What do others think?
- Notes
- The minute detail is in the articles themselves - don't need detail in this table. (e.g. "Year" rather than "Date")
- The raw data in the table is in sort by Continent by Country by Year Opened
Related pages:

- Key
- Open = Year Opened
- Close = Year Closed, renamed, or amalgamated into another institution
- Services:
- AF = Air Force / Air
- A = Army / Land
- C = Combined (but not Joint) - refer to the institution's article for details of combination
- J = Joint
- M = Marines
- N = Navy / Maritime

Blatant contradiction
[edit]The articles states "under the reign of Frederick the Great in 1710".
But Frederick reigned from 1740. Either the date is wrong, or his grandfather was then reigning.
