? UK-derivative of "EuroDual" aka "Class 99" ?
[edit]Anyone here to add this to the page, as Stadler seem to have proceeded with the dual power issue beyond class 88 state-of-art? Might become a game-changer for freight business with equal availability of diesel and electric hauling power for through operation of freight trains between electric and diesel lines. No idea if "electric" in this context also comprises 750V dc 3rd rail operation. May I understand that the predecessor lightweight Bo'Bo' class 88 had been confined to pax duties? Decriptions for EuroDual of continental / Scandinavian pattern seem to apply, however, squeezed into the UK clearances, without the reduced power specs for SaLi and FGC derivatives on the metre gauge. Given the spacious appearance of the cl. 159's engine & control compartments, that seems a logical consequence, in hope the structural integrity ("crashworthiness") will not be sacrificed to save weight & space. Anyone with the spec sheets from 2024's Innotrans trade fair @ Berlin ? Would be great ! TIA 2003:DD:6F05:C423:9C08:AB64:AE8C:9391 (talk) 21:42, 16 November 2024 (UTC)
