The stacker boom can be designed as a slewing structure that can be raised or lowered as required by the stacking process. For by-passing operation, the tripper can be flattened or un-coupled.

[edit]I've made quite a number of spelling, grammar, and punctuation edits to this article, but it still needs work. Hoping someone more familiar with the topic will step in and edit. I don't want to misinterpret and change meaning unintentionally. Katherine Daisy Anderson 15:23, 3 July 2010 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Katherine Daisy Anderson (talk • contribs)
merge (or diversify) Spreader_(mining) and Stacker?
[edit]the concepts are nearly identical, it might take an expert to tell them apart. specifically, the Stacker page is already links to de:Absetzer, and contains a picture of a german surface mining machine, while Spreader_(mining) assumes to be specifially about (surface) mining.
