Winchester? Really?
[edit]I do not believe there is any relationship between the St. Giles Fair held in St Giles St, Oxford, in the aftermath of St Giles Day, and the fair on St Giles Hill near Winchester. I propose to remove all material making that claim (I have sources to the contrary).
This link says there was indeed a fair on St Giles Hill, into the mid 19th Century. Since the Oxford fair is attested since 13th Century, these two cannot possibly be the same fair. http://research.hgt.org.uk/item/st-giles-hill/

OK, so I had a go at removing this Winchester nonsense. The St Giles Fair in Oxford dates back to the consacration of St Giles Church (in Oxford), in about 1200. The Winchester fair was still running into the 19th century. But a lot of material in this article may have been added under the misapprehension that this is the same fair that used to run on St Giles Hill near Winchester; I can't unscramble that egg.
So, to be quite honest, I don't trust much of the detail in this article, because I don't know what parts were added by the Winchester editor. MrDemeanour (talk) 15:50, 17 November 2017 (UTC)
