I've altered the common description of this killing as "murder", because this is incorrect. The perpetrator pleaded guilty to manslaughter and was so convicted, and the reference already given in the text includes this detail.
I've left the description of Maud Lelain as "housekeeper", because she was ostensibly performing that function at the time. However, she was actually a "companion". Fr Hull had come to know her when he was an Air Force chaplain during WWII, and they had been in an irregular relationship from then on.
