[edit]"St Werburgh's Church, serving the Anglican community in Chorlton and Whallley Range was founded in 1900"; before 1900 most of what is now St Weburghs's parish was part of the St Clement's parish. Martledge, one of the four parts of the original township of Chorlton, the others being Chorlton, Hardy and Hough End (however Hough End was transferred to Withington township in 1642), was like the rest of the township in the ancient parish of Manchester. Rights of burial at that time normally only belonged to parish churches, not chapels-of-ease. If it can be found the date when Chorlton Chapel was granted right of burial would be worth including in the article.--Johnsoniensis (talk) 20:41, 12 May 2015 (UTC)

St Werburgh's
[edit]Thank you for the Redlink User:J3Mrs This final edit clarifies the relationship between the parishes. 212.121.210.45 (talk) 15:24, 21 August 2015 (UTC)
I look forward to reading the new article. J3Mrs (talk) 15:26, 21 August 2015 (UTC)
I understand your proprietary interest in this article, but if you wish to make any further edits or reversions, please discuss them on here first. 212.121.210.45 (talk) 15:39, 21 August 2015 (UTC)
- No problem. I have no proprietary interest but don't like to see articles sprawl into irrelevant territory. What you added is WP:UNDUE, unreferenced but would be more than useful in an article about St Werburgh's Church, Chorlton-cum-Hardy. Perhaps you can explain why it is crucial here. J3Mrs (talk) 15:44, 21 August 2015 (UTC)
Thanks for taking the time. The reduction of the Parish, (as opposed to its sub-division in the case of St Barnabas), is of relevance, as it shows that the Parish's population outgrew the existing structure. And the word 'benefice' was used correctly - please check with the Deanery of Hulme. 212.121.210.45 (talk) 15:49, 21 August 2015 (UTC)
- It may well be that there is not enough on St Werburgh's to justify its own article; covering it in the C-c-H article should be enough.--Johnsoniensis (talk) 16:00, 21 August 2015 (UTC)
- The article currently describes what happened to St Clement's parish and that a new church was built. It should not describe another church or its parish. Most churches are notable, the redlink can remain until sufficient information is available.
- Making claims like the reduction of the parish " is of relevance, as it shows that the Parish's population outgrew the existing structure" without a reference is WP:OR or WP:SYNTH. J3Mrs (talk) 17:25, 21 August 2015 (UTC)
Thank you for your guidance, and I will start researching the new parish's history for an article. As for including it here, the relevance surely lies in the fact that for at least three decades, the new church served solely the area that had been part of the old parish. Housing development to the east of the old parish boundary did not begin until the 1930's, and only substantively ended in the 1960's. Also most of this area became known as Chorlton, rather than Whalley Range. But, User:J3Mrs, its your article, and your experience is far greater. Once again, thank you for taking the time to discuss the edits. 212.121.210.45 (talk) 11:11, 22 August 2015 (UTC)
- As I said, I'm only trying to keep the article focused. The church is mentioned in the Chorlton-cum-Hardy article so I really don't understand your persistence. The church website says it serves Whalley Range. I look forward to reading the new article :-) J3Mrs (talk) 12:28, 22 August 2015 (UTC)
