[edit]On city plan I should write: St Aldate's or St Aldate's Street or...?
- Just St. Aldate's. Shimgray | talk | 15:33, 23 March 2007 (UTC)
- I agree. That's it's name. Graldensblud 23:02, 14 April 2007 (UTC)
Apostrophe, and etymology
[edit]According to all the books on Oxford that I've read, there's no such saint as "Aldate" -- the name comes from "Old Gates" -- and there's therefore no apostrophe. Interestingly, even the church of St Aldates doesn't use the apostrophe. --87.113.53.153 (talk) 07:39, 27 August 2019 (UTC)
