St. George (name) → St George (name) – Most of the names listed do not use the full stop. – Opera hat (talk) 00:40, 18 December 2015 (UTC) Relisted. Jenks24 (talk) 05:59, 28 December 2015 (UTC)
- This is a contested technical request (permalink). EdJohnston (talk) 01:28, 18 December 2015 (UTC)
- The article at St. George (name) omits all the full stops in the text of the article, even though it has one in the title. This quirk might be left over from an old dispute that was not fully resolved. See also Saint George (name). I hope that anyone who was involved in these naming issues in the past can be notified of this discussion. EdJohnston (talk) 01:28, 18 December 2015 (UTC)
- There are unlikely to be many in 1000 who routinely accurately remember and distinguish between "St name" and "St. name" and "Saint name". Best list all three in together for the same name. Anthony Appleyard (talk) 10:13, 18 December 2015 (UTC)
- Of course St George, St. George and Saint George are different spellings of the same name, so all three variants should be included here. I thought, though, that as the majority of people listed are spelled "St George", the title should reflect this. The original title St George (name) was moved to Saint George (name) by User:Chicbyaccident on 13 December 2015, and then to St. George (name) by User:Rockypedia on 17 December 2015 (the edit summary saying this "reverted to consensus name", which it didn't). Maybe I should have listed this under "Requests to revert undiscussed moves" instead. Opera hat (talk) 11:45, 19 December 2015 (UTC)
- Totally my bad. I was in the middle of reviewing about 50 moves of "St. ----> Saint" page moves by User:Chicbyaccident and I did not notice that this one was originally a St without the period. My apologies, everyone. An honest mistake. Rockypedia (talk) 13:31, 19 December 2015 (UTC)

- Oppose WP:MOS is generally to use . In ictu oculi (talk) 17:14, 18 December 2015 (UTC)
- The use of the full stop or not is primarily a difference of North American/British English. Most of the people listed are either English or Irish, so MOS:TIES would argue against using the full stop. MOS:RETAIN also suggests that in disputed cases the form used by the first editor (which was me) should be preferred. Opera hat (talk) 11:45, 19 December 2015 (UTC)
- Oppose – the period is conventional, and the claim that most of the Irish and British individuals don't use it is not supported by evidence (the first two I checked turned up in books with the period). Looking at books, I find the period in the vast majority of occurrences of "St George". Even if some individuals omit it, it is not harmful to keep it here as an indication that this is an abbreviation of Saint. Dicklyon (talk) 06:13, 28 December 2015 (UTC)
