references and tone

[edit]

This article looks like a self-promotion. No management science professor has a Wikipedia entry this long, no mater how prominent he/she is. It feels like you are reading an academic CV rather than an unbaised public information.

Although a cursory glance suggests that this article is well referenced, in reality more than half of the references are to works written or cowritten by the subject himself. Their claims cannot be used as reliable sources; see WP:IRS. This article is written exactly like an autobiography, and uses a variety of WP:PEACOCK language. I have tagged it appropriately; please do not remove the tags (again) without fixing these problems. Kerfuffler (talk) 22:56, 8 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Multiple changes have been made after Kerfuffler brought up the issue, including, for example, a section and the subject's company links were removed, so were many adjectives and claims without references. I think there is no WP:PEACOCK language in the current version, and the position and tone is neutral. I have thus removed the tags for now. If anyone detects any further issues in this wikipedia page, please feel free to bring these tags back, and if possible, specify problem sentences and claims in this article. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 108.32.104.170 (talk) 16:57, 9 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

You have not fixed the problem I noted above with the references. Much of the material is still cited from publications of the subject himself. Kerfuffler (talk) 19:02, 9 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Kerfuffler: Can you provide some EXAMPLES of improper references? Also, I don't think it is right to put an "advert" label. Of all of 28 references in the current version, only 8 are links to the subject's academic papers (mostly in the "Academic Work" section), and they are cited simply to provide examples of the subject's academic work, not to promote any position. One can certainly remove all the links to his research papers, but it would then be an incomplete article needing a "BLP sources" label.

No, those self-references are used as the sole source for three entire sections (Career, Planned Spontaneity, Management Mechanics). Maybe others, but I haven't the patience to look any further. And it's very obvious that the PS and MM sections were written to help promote those ideas. Kerfuffler (talk) 19:49, 9 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Kerfuffler:Good points. I have removed the PS and MM sections (if anyone wants to restore the two sections, they will have to add reliable third-party references). I have also removed the research reference in the Career section. After these MAJOR changes, I think your concerns have been well addressed, justifying the removal of the tags. Otherwise, please tag any remaining issues and provide specific examples so that other wikipedia users can help improve the article.
