Proposed merger from Karimganj_district
[edit]- Merge Karimganj_district into Karimganj there is redundancy. Both these article talk about the Karimganj district of Assam — Preceding unsigned comment added by Shahtapa (talk • contribs) 21:06, 17 September 2011 (UTC)
- Oppose. One is for the city, one is for the district. Have you brought this up at WP:INDIST? There's an entire project for districts that will become defunct if this becomes the standard. Please explain your motivations at our Talk Page. Also, when signing comments please write four "~" symbols. Thanks.
Cheers,

Town renamed from "Karimganj" to "Sribhumi"
[edit]@Fylindfotberserk: Hi, as per Official X channel, News1, News2, renaming of the town has been officially done, notified, and confirmed. Per discussed similarly @District Talkpage. Jor langneh (Talk) 21:47, 22 November 2024 (UTC)
- Request to move the page to Sribhumi (Town). I am from this town and can say Sribhumi is not only the official language but also the name used by the most of the people of this town. Actually when Karimganj was official, people used to refer to Sribhumi including me... now both the common and official name is Sribhumi. Goswami21 (talk) 05:54, 23 November 2024 (UTC)
- Oppose, Also @Jor.langneh and Goswami21: do a proper move request as guided in WP:RM here. Do not do unilateral or cut-paste moves like you did at the district article. It is disruptive and blockable. Cut-paste moves remove the history of the article. Jor langneh, you are an experienced user, you should know that. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 09:15, 23 November 2024 (UTC)

Karimganj → Sribhumi (town) – The town has been renamed, and notified to public through Official X channel. (News1) Jor langneh (Talk) 11:34, 23 November 2024 (UTC)
- Oppose - Too soon as of now. Karimganj is still the WP:COMMONNAME. Also see WP:OFFICIAL. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 11:54, 23 November 2024 (UTC)
- "Karimganj" with quotes get 1,000+ hits in Google News, while "Sribhumi" gets a little over 300, that too because of the recent name change. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 20:40, 23 November 2024 (UTC)
- Support - The actual name of the article should be Sribhumi (town). I am a resident of the town since 2000, Sribhumi is actually the WP:COMMONNAME. Most of the people used to refer 'Sribhumi' instead of 'Karimganj'. Earlier, before the renaming, Sribhumi was the WP:COMMONNAME and 'Karimganj' was the WP:OFFICIAL. Now, both the WP:COMMONNAME and the WP:OFFICIAL name is 'Sribhumi'. - User:Goswami21 (talk) 20:30, 23 November 2024 (UTC)
- That's not how the policy works. It requires evidences from the internet itself. Karimganj has always been the most commonly used name per Ngrams. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 20:40, 23 November 2024 (UTC)
- Oppose: "Karimganj" remains the WP:COMMONNAME as it is widely used in official, historical, and geographical contexts. While "Sribhumi" reflects the recent renaming. Wikipedia prioritizes the most recognizable name for articles to ensure clarity and accessibility. Aryan{Talk} 02:15, 24 November 2024 (UTC)
- Oppose: "Karimganj" is the WP:COMMONNAME. -Cerium4B(talk)
