Surname

[edit]

The family name Fromme is of German origin, still found in a number exceeding 1040 phone book entries in Germany which is above average, the name and families being deeptly rooted in Westphalia. The name means "the pious one" and is pronounced fʁɔm-ə (stressed on the first syllable) in IPA. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 77.184.38.161 (talk) 13:09, 19 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

According to an article I read which in turn cited a genealogical website, Lynette Fromme is distantly related to General Erik Fromme, the German General who was the commander of the German "Reserve Army" in 1944 at the time of the plot against Hitler, and who was subsequently arrested and executed. Fromme's actual knowledge of the plot is unclear, but he arrested Claus von Stauffenberg and the other chief conspirators at the Werhmacht HQ building and after a brief summary court martial, had them shot around midnight on July 20. This implicated him, rightly or wrongly, since the Gestapo was thus unable to interrogate the coup leaders and obtain further information and names. Fromme is depicted in the Tom Cruise "Valkyrie" film. I do not recall the exact relationship, but it was remote-- 3rd cousin removed twice or thrice, etc. Lynette Fromme's paternal ancestors must have immigrated to the States only in the late 19th Century for that to work out. Interesting trivia if it is correct. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.163.90.86 (talk) 23:41, 28 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Projected release date

[edit]

The article and source lists a projected release date of 08/16/09 – however she is serving a life sentence. Has her sentence been commuted or is this an error on the source website? Sottolacqua (talk) 15:46, 20 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, no, and I tried to present this in the article, but someone kept undoing it [1]. If she chooses to attend her parole hearing, which she has recently refused to do, and she is granted parole, then her release date would be in August. I grew tired of fighting it. Wildhartlivie (talk) 02:43, 21 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, she is serving a life sentence but she was sentenced BEFORE the federal government abolished parole for life sentences. The Federal Bureau of Prisons website states that her projected release date is August 16, 2009. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 97.106.43.63 (talk) 21:13, 16 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

She still must attend the parole hearing and be granted parole before she would be released. If she doesn't attend, which she has refused to do in recent years, the projected release date will come and go and she will remain in prison. I cannot understand for the life of me why that is such a difficult concept to understand. She has to attend and be granted parole to be released. Wildhartlivie (talk) 23:10, 16 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Wildhartlivie is correct. The Federal BOP Inmate Locator has shown a series of projected release dates over the years. The current projected release date indicates when Fromme is next permitted to apply for parole. If that date passes without her attending her parole hearing, a new parole hearing date is set and a new projected release date posted. Whoever is undoing Wildhartlivie's edits to this effect is in error. EastVanHalen (talk) 02:34, 19 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
What I can't understand for the life of me is why you can't comprehend the possibility that Fromme can be released this month. Nothing suggests she needs a parole hearing this time. You and EastVanHalen are in error. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.127.200.220 (talk) 15:25, 1 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
No one has said, at any time, that there is no possibility of her being released in August. The point is that she has to attend the hearing. Meanwhile, what you removed from the article does not contradict that she could be released. It is entirely appropriate to note that she has refused to attend hearings and thus had not been released to date. You also removed the formatting to the reference that tells where it came from and what makes it a referenced note which some could see as vandalism. Again, no one is disputing the possibility of release and thus your removal of the content changes nothing except to note she has refused to attend the hearings. Wildhartlivie (talk) 19:08, 1 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
According to http://www.cnn.com/2009/CRIME/08/05/squeaky.fromme.release/index.html She is definitly going to be released on the 16th. Altairantares (talk) 21:44, 5 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Loaded or not?

[edit]

I've read before that the weapon she pointed at Ford was not loaded. This article states: "The pistol's magazine was loaded with four rounds, but none were in the firing chamber." I'm not sure I know enough about pistols to understand what it means to have a round in the magazine but not in the firing chamber. Hopefully someoen can add some clarifying details to this section of the article. There can only be one round in the chamber at a time, right? Could she have fired this pistol if she had pulled the trigger several times? 162.6.97.3 (talk) 20:06, 14 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

If the gun was a semi-automatic (clip-fed) she would have to manually pullback the slide to load the chamber. If it was a double-action revolver, she could simply have pulled the trigger repeatedly to advance to the 1st bullet and fire. If it was a single-action revolver, she would have had to manually cock the trigger and pull, repeating the sequence until the gun advanced to the 1st round and could then fire. 216.153.214.89 (talk) 06:38, 15 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Oddly, that crummy explanation has stood for 4 years. The gun, a Colt Model 1911, requires a brisk, energetic, two-handed racking of the slide to get a round into battery when there is none in the chamber. If one were really intending to use the gun, there are more practical "conditions" for it to be in that would make firing it vastly simpler and quicker. If a 1911 in the "condition" that Fromme was carrying it were placed in the hands of a person unfamiliar with the gun, they would find it a baffling instrument that did not seem to be capable of firing bullets. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 208.127.3.249 (talk) 03:25, 28 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

"Rendered homeless"? Nonsense!

[edit]

This is needlessly and overtly tying an adult child evicted for unruly behavior to the plight of homelessness.

Depressed?

[edit]

By whose diagnosis? I've not once read a qualified assessment of Fromme as depressed at 17.

Why the nickname?

[edit]

I came to this article to find out why Fromme is referred to as "Squeaky". Surprisingly, it doesn't say. Somebody should fix that. — Hex (❝?!❞) 04:16, 20 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I do not think its of any inportance, Some people just have nicknames — Preceding unsigned comment added by 174.25.8.115 (talk) 04:52, 9 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

That's a plain dumb response. If it's worth putting in the article it's worth knowing why she got such a nickname! Otherwise just take the mention out. I too was interested in knowing why she was called "Squeaky" but the reason why is conspicuous by its absence. That is not good enough such a strange nickname for a mass murderer!! According to Manson Family member Paul Watkins, notorious Mansonite Lynette “Squeaky” Fromme got her nickname because of the sound she made when Spahn ran his hand up her thigh. Family member Charles Watson has written that his own nickname, “Tex,” was given to him by Spahn, who recognized his Texas accent. HammerFilmFan (talk) 22:32, 4 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

release date

[edit]

I must be misreading something. This says she was released in 2009. But the news today august 2013 says she is about to be released. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.181.60.249 (talk) 13:42, 27 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

High School?

The Wiki entries for both Redondo Beach High School, and Westchester High School list her as "Notable Alumni." Since this isn't possible, does anyone know which high school she actually graduated from? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.61.20.206 (talk) 14:07, 16 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

- What incident? Former convict harassed by unscrupulous TV personnel who in their segment on her make a point of telling the viewers (voyeurs?) where she can be found if they have a score to settle. Aftermath

[edit]

Aftermath

In 1979, Fromme was transferred out of Federal Correctional Institution, Dublin in Dublin, California, for attacking a fellow inmate, Julienne Bušić, with the claw-end of a hammer. On December 23, 1987, she escaped from the Federal Prison Camp, Alderson in Alderson, West Virginia, attempting to meet Manson, who she had heard had testicular cancer. She was captured again two days later and incarcerated at the Federal Medical Center, Carswell in Fort Worth, Texas.[3]

I believe this should read, "On December 23, 1987, she escaped from the Federal Prison Camp, Alderson in Alderson, West Virginia, attempting to meet Manson, whom she had heard had testicular cancer." I.e., "whom" rather than "who". PentiumPro (talk) 17:15, 20 November 2017 (UTC)PentiumPro 11/20/2017[reply]

Why is a 'non-primary source' requested for her statement to the press?

[edit]

'She told the press that she "came to get life. Not just my life but clean air, healthy water, and respect for creatures and creation."[1][non-primary source needed]'

I don't see the point of this request by User:SecretSpectre. The main point of the distinction between a primary and a secondary source on Wikipedia is that any non-trivial interpretation of a primary source is OR, but in this case, this is just a quotation and there is no interpretation. I see no reason to doubt that Fromme did say that, and, in particular, I don't see why the fact that the quote is found in a news report should be such a reason. Wikipedia cites newspapers quoting people all the time - this is standard practice. I am saying this while assuming that what the editor means by the 'primary source' is the press report - presumably because breaking news are considered primary sources for Wikipedia's purposes (although I am not even sure that every news article like this really counts as breaking news). The alternative is that the 'primary source' the editor means is Fromme herself and that they believe that her statements about herself should not be reported. Now, this latter argument I find profoundly faulty and dangerous - reporting a statement by an involved party is not tantamount to endorsing it and accepting the notion that it is would lead to extreme censorship. Anonymous44 (talk) 14:40, 5 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I was referring to the part about the finding of a ejected shell found on the floor of her home. It does not mention this detail in the attempted assassination page, and the only source supporting that was primary. SecretSpectre (talk) 22:46, 5 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

incorrect "The Office" reference

[edit]

Under "In Pop Culture" it says: In 2009, Fromme was referenced in the episode "Murder", of the American TV series The Office, where the character Creed Bratton implies they had a past relationship, saying: "I once spent time with Squeaky Fromme."" This reference is incorrect. Squeaky Fromme was not referenced in S06E10, rather in S05E16 as follows: Creed: All right, all right. Say no more. So, this is how I got Squeaky Fromme. No small talk. Just show her who's the boss. Just go right in and kiss her. 50.227.69.170 (talk) 18:04, 19 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
