What topics need further coverage ?

[edit]

I seek feedback about sports codes or topics that should be added to this article. At this stage, the scope of coverage is generally "traditional" sports, and mostly team sports. I have excluded "recreation" to keep the scope within manageable limits. Also, there may be fewer sources for some recreational activities.

It would be great to have a few more editors chipping in to help expand this draft. _Marshelec (talk) 02:14, 4 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I'll do some work here. Alexeyevitch(talk) 03:00, 4 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Cloventt: Do you have any interest in sport in Christchurch ? It would be great to have some other inputs to this draft article. My current intention is to try and get this to a C-class, and then I will replace all the detailed content in the Christchurch article with the content of the lead from this article (along with a few selected citations) plus a main template link to this article. Are you able to chip in ? Another perspective would be really helpful, even if it is just review rather than content creation._Marshelec (talk) 07:29, 7 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
From a historic perspective, what ought to be covered are horses (mostly thoroughbred) and rowing. Both are still strong to this day, with horse racing at two venues and many Christchurch schools having a strong rowing culture (Rangi Ruru, Christ's College, St Andrew's College, Boys' High, St Bede's). See Maadi Cup for how the various schools are doing. Rowing is New Zealand's most successful Olympic sport (measured by medals; it comes ahead of athletics) and Christchurch is one of the rowing powerhouses. As an aside, East Lake (New Zealand) is an interesting read and you'll find that it goes back to Gerry Brownlee being related to two Olympic rowers. Before the Avon River silted up in the 1930s, the rowing headquarters were just upstream of what is now the Fitzgerald Avenue bridge. Schwede66 06:27, 9 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Christchurch or Canterbury/Association Football

[edit]

Is this page about Christchurch or Canterbury, due to there being mentions of both throughout the page. Clarifying due to if Selwyn, Waimakariri and others be included in Association football and List of major venues.

Can change Association football to Teams in regional competitions if required, added due to them both being under New Zealand Football.
