Fair use rationale for Image:Spirogyraband.jpg

[edit]

Image:Spirogyraband.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Wrong Canterbury University

[edit]

The current text says that Martin Cockerham went to Canterbury University, which is odd for someone forming a UK-based folk/rock band because Canterbury University is in New Zealand. Cockerham instead went to the University of Kent at Canterbury. I know this because I was there at the same time and it was definitely not in NZ. However, I can't find an external reference to back this fact up. All the Spirogyra web sites I've looked at (including Cockerham's own) only talk about him going to university in Canterbury. The image of a poster for Spirogyra appearing at the Foundry

[edit]

The Foundry was a hippy venue in Canterbury, not part of the University of Kent at Canterbury which was on a hill outside Canterbury proper. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 51.52.47.137 (talk) 12:00, 21 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Article to Avoid

[edit]

I'm trying to improve this page by adding sources, and I came across this article that appeared in The Bolton News in November of 2019. The third and fourth paragraphs, concerning the band's discography, are lifted almost word-for-word from the band's Wikipedia page as of that time. I don't suspect that there's anything factually incorrect in that article, but this leads to that unfortunate echo-box situation where a Wikipedia article that lacks citations is used as a source for a publication, and then that publication is retroactively cited as the source in the Wikipedia article. For anyone else working on this article in the future, I'd suggest avoiding using this article as a source, since it seems to just be a cobbling together of the band's Wikipedia page, and a few quotes from the book Seasons They Change – which I've already added to this page as a source. — Portuni (talk) 00:24, 22 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Spurious(?) Record Collector reviews

[edit]

I just removed the following sentence from the article, referring to Spirogyra 5 and one of Martin Cockerham's solo releases:

Both were made available through Cockerham's Rainbow Empire website and were favourably reviewed in the Christmas 2009 edition of Record Collector magazine.

I checked the album reviews from that issue, as listed on Record Collector's website, and found no such reviews. I also checked the album reviews from the Dec. 2009 issue, and, again, it wasn't listed. I didn't make the more conservative move stick a citation needed tag up because it kind of is cited, and the citation doesn't seem to match the claim. If anyone can find evidence that these reviews really do exist, I'd be glad to see the article amended accordingly. Portuni (talk) 04:58, 26 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
