Old definition
[edit]this article seemed to have an extremely old definition of spirit guides, which isn't accurate to what many people claim a spirit guide is. Most people who believe in such entities will say that a spirit guide isn't an angel or animal, angels and animals are a seperate phylum from human's completely. But that's only a mere opinion on the subject... Does anyone have any good online references to spirit guides that seem documentalble? I'm just more or less filling in info that I heard and read about in other places to give someone something to go by. it's quite difficult to find legal and usable sources on the web on spirit guides that seem to hold weight. It's kind of odd that this topic isn't already expanded with spirituality increasing in more and more people...--HARRYericPOTTER 00:10, 10 July 2006 (UTC)
I removed the following sections.
[edit]Unverifiable speculation presented as fact.
Astral Plane Meetings
During the astral projection state of consciousness it is fairly common for one to look for his or her spirit guide. If one can reach an out of body state of mind, one can presumably meet their spirit guide on that plane of existence. Because the astral plane is easier to tune and get through to, the idea is that spirit guides can more easily make the transition from the other side.
Dream Meetings
Dreams are often concluded to be an out of body experience disguised by the human brain so that it can accept the actions that is taking place before an individual. Sometimes one may find themselves dreaming about the same stranger or entity and then later solve problems and issues based on that entities messages or actions in the dream. These entities are believed by some people to be one's spirit guide.

Old fashioned and simplisic
[edit]Dear Sirs, As a practicing medium I agree that this description is all a bit simplistic, and as you say old fashioned.
In most spiritualist meetings the evidence is so overwhelming for the existence of real people in the spirit world that the sceptics attitude is dismissed out of hand by any who can be bothered to investigate.
However for obvious reasons spirit guides are not considered as evidential unless they can be verified through historical documentation, which I believe has been done many times.
The necessity of this verification for ‘outsiders’ is considered by most spiritualists to be lacking, because the prime evidence of the existence of disincarnate beings having been established, renders the person or persons [guide] by which it is done immaterial.

This article is poorly written
[edit]Whoever put this article together would have benefited by having met a few Spiritualists. As has been noted above, the pge is written from a backwards-looking historical angle and there is no connection with modern day Spiritualist churchres. Not only that, basic rules of typography are ignored and one can hardly guess the reason for the strange POV statement about "middle-class Anglo-Saxon women" (i just removed it). cat Catherineyronwode 08:16, 4 November 2007 (UTC)
They should get rid of this stuff on Derek Acoroh just stick to the facts and leave celebrities out. ~~
I challenge the notion that Theresa Caputo is in any way well known or famous. The only place I have ever heard her name is on the Howard Stern show. Remove her. 173.48.76.98 (talk) 12:51, 28 June 2014 (UTC)

[edit]Most people have them and they always bring good into someones heart, unless the guide is possessed by a ghost of bad nature. Bullydog2 (talk) 07:55, 23 November 2008 (UTC)
Wicca
[edit]Normally summoned or invoked in the wicca community.
Ummm...No. You do not have to get involved with Wicca (witchcraft) in order to communicate with spirit guides or "the dead". Total BS sentence. Temmpted to remoive it. Jimj wpg (talk) 06:55, 21 July 2020 (UTC)
Not a useful or helpful page
[edit]This page is full of unhelpful opinions, biases and generalised assumptions which do no justice to this topic.
Probably needs deleting completely and replacing with actual knowledge of the subject.
Why is the discussion starting with Africa, Christianity or Europeans? Spirit Guides are a unique aspect of Native American spiritually and culture - not the invention of hippies. 86.7.220.141 (talk) 16:40, 23 October 2023 (UTC)
