Reception Section and "Mixed Reviews"

I understand that these are retrospective reviews, but I believe the only three listed don't account for labeling the album as having "mixed reviews". For one, no matter what he said in his review, the allmusic review gives the album 5/5 stars. Robert Christgau is one to give an average review as well as the Rolling Stone review. That's two. But, there are many other alternative albums on Wikipedia with "Generally Positive" descriptions and still have over three negative reviews listed. This is why I believe in the removal of "mixed reviews". "This recording is meant to be listened to on vinyl"

I just edited something in the article:

The original CD release had the following legend on its back cover: "This recording is meant to be listened to on vinyl." More recent pressings do not include this note.

The original pressing of the CD did not have that note. It first appeared in 1993, when Touch & Go reissued Tweez with the same note on the back. I have no idea when they again began printing copies without it, though.

EDIT: According to an email from someone at T&G records, their best guess is that they omitted the note in 1998. Druff 00:14, 22 December 2005 (UTC)

Good Article Review - On Hold

Overall this is a relatively solid article, with just some minor wrinkles that need ironing out:

• Some overall Wikification needs to be done. Things like "angular guitar work" may be foreign to some. Just because I know what it is doesn't mean someone else will.
• "The release was Slint's first on Touch & Go, but it would be their final album." Should sound better as "Although Spiderland was Slint's first release on Touch & Go, it was ultimately their last record."
• " In 2007, Slint reunited for a tour consisting of performances of Spiderland in its entirety as part of the "Don't Look Back" concert series." could end with "entirety". The rest is just fluff to be said later in the article.
• "Slint formed in 1987 in Louisville, Kentucky from the remnants of punk rock band Squirrel Bait" add a "the" in between 'of' and 'punk'
• I rather avoid parentheses, but you can do what you please with them.
• "The band's first album, the Steve Albini-produced Tweez, was released on the band's self-owned label Jennifer Hartman Records and Tapes" uses the word 'band' twice. Maybe 'group' or 'foursome' would work better.
• "Paulson recalled "It was weird while I was doing that record because I remember sitting there, and I just knew there was something about it. I've never heard anything like this. I'm really digging this but it's really fucking weird." which record does he refer to?
• "McMahan later praised the latter's 1988 album Daydream Nation" not really significant or relevant to this article.
• "In spite of plans for a tour of Europe to promote Spiderland, Slint broke up in 1991 for reasons that were never elaborated" 'not revealed' might work better than 'never elaborated'

Merge proposal

This article is about Spiderland, not Slint - content that does not specifically pertain to the album (i.e. the Reunion section) should be removed and merged into the band article. Steve Carlson^Talk 07:06, 26 December 2008 (UTC)

Cover photo influenced by the beatles?

Ratings box

Is there a reason this article doesn't have a ratings box under the reception section? Would there be any objections to putting one in? Robvanvee 20:48, 29 January 2013 (UTC)

As far as I can see, there is no discussion or consensus about discluding the rating box. However, it was removed a few times ([1], [2], [3]) by User:WesleyDodds, because of "being unnecessary". I'm not sure why it is unnecessary though, as it is a standart template that may be used (or may not be used, if a consensus against it exists) in album articles. It is better to consult him and learn the actual reason (or start a discussion to reach consensus) before adding an one. Myxomatosis57 (talk) 22:14, 29 January 2013 (UTC)
