Continuity
[edit]Spider-Man Unlimited doesn't follow the continuity of the 1990's TAS in a few ways.
Let's use as an example the creation of Venom and Carnage.
TAS:
- Spider-Man found the Symbiote on John Jameson's crashed shuttle after fighting the Rhino who wanted the Promethium X. Spider-Man dismisses the black ooze as river pollution. Later that night, the Symbiote bonds with Spider-Man.
After rescuing John Jameson from the hands of the Kingpin, Spidey battles Shocker and Eddie Brock follows him up the tower. Spidey webs Eddie Brock to the tower. Spider-Man realises the Symbiote was vulnerable to sound and so used the bell's chime to get the Symbiote off him. Unfortunately, the Symbiote bonded to Brock and became Venom.
Spidey defeated Venom by tricking him into a confrontation at the launch site of the John Jameson Probe, forcing the Symbiote off Brock. The authorities apprehend Brock.
- Carnage was created when the Venom Symbiote returned to the Earth after Baron Mordo grounded the Probe. Mordo returned the Symbiote to Brock, who became Venom and escaped Ravencroft. Cletus Kasady had recently been put in jail, assumedly he was the same kind of serial killer madman he was in the comics, but when Dormammu told Mordo of a second Symbiote, Mordo gave the Carnage symbiote to Cletus Kasady as a 'gift', as long as Kasady swore to serve Dormammu forever.
Spider-Man Unlimited:
- As in the TAS, Spidey found his way to the shuttle crash, but this time, the Symbiote bonded with him on the shuttle. Later, he forced the symbiote off himself and it, again, bonded to Brock. Spider-Man and Venom fight, and Spider-Man defeats Venom, allowing the authorities (assumedly S.H.I.E.L.D.) to take him. The symbiote remained bonded to Eddie Brock and he escaped, giving a Symbiote to 'Carnage'. No mention of Mordo or Dormammu is ever made. Also they assume their 'monster' forms in the flashback this story is told in, instead of their 'humanoid' forms. Ggctuk 12:57, 28 November 2006 (UTC)
- "What have you done with our brother Venom?!" - Carnage. Yet, Venom is Carnage's "Father", not his "brother".
Carnage did refer to himself as 'we' at the start of Venom Returns, but in the next episode, it was 'I', then in Unlimited it was 'we' again. Ggctuk 08:53, 29 November 2006 (UTC)
- It's because he was crazy. Spongefrog, (talk to me, or else) 18:20, 12 July 2009 (UTC)
- Spider-Man Unlimited still played the theme song from TAS in the first episode, just after Peter puts his costume on and before Venom and Carnage appear. That indicates there is some link between the two shows. 75.157.120.15 (talk) 10:33, 22 June 2010 (UTC)
That indicates nothing, considering it's just an instrumental variant of the original spider-man theme song from the really old cartoon. 69.246.197.19 (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 09:47, 8 July 2012 (UTC)
They wouldn´t have taken that theme song if there were no connection. But it seems to have a lot of continuity errors.77.13.152.1 (talk) 18:20, 8 August 2012 (UTC)
Okay, I want someone to provide a source for this show being a continuation of TAS, otherwise i'm removing it from this page. A theme tune that was just a remix of the original spider-man theme is not a good source. I want someone to find were marvel actually stated that it was a loose continuation. Afterall, wikipedia has a policy requiring verifiable sources for information, and there is none for this. 67.167.253.222 (talk) 23:11, 31 July 2013 (UTC)
Spider-Man Unlimited 20099
[edit]- I saw something that said Spider-Man Unlimited was originally supposed to be a Spider-Man 2099 TV series, based of of the comic in the mid 1990s, but the producers didn't do it because they thought kids would not get all the Sci-Fi talk. But what they did do is they kept the same style of the costume that Spidey wore. --67.170.207.109 20:58, 5 August 2007 (UTC)
- Spider-Man 2099's costume is totally different from Spider-Man Unlimited's. The web-cape is pretty much the only similarity. 75.157.120.15 (talk) 01:14, 23 June 2010 (UTC)
Triva section deleted
[edit]I have removed the triva section as they are discouraged by Wikipedia. If anyone feels that there was any information there that you could put somewhere else in this article, you can still go onto the history section and copy what you'd like. InfernoSonic 19:07 05 January 2008 (UTC)
Why were Venom and Carnage Friends?
[edit]In TAS (as well as pretty much every other incarnation of the Spider-man mythos) Venom and Carnage were mortal enemies yet in this show they were best buds. What is up with that? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.113.151.13 (talk) 02:31, 26 March 2008 (UTC)
- Spider-Man Unlimited's backstory is slightly similar to the 1990's animated series, but according to the flashbacks in episode 11, Venom deliberately created Carnage to aid in the expansion of the Synoptic (symbiote hive-mind). That's why they were buddies. 75.157.120.15 (talk) 06:54, 23 June 2010 (UTC)
So why aren't they included as "characters"? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 199.173.226.235 (talk) 17:37, 24 June 2015 (UTC)
