Unnamed section
I think one should mention book "Spetsnaz" by Victor Suvorov here, including their training to kill, which starts from killing a pregnant cat with bare hands, and killing of dogs and killing people prisoners called "gladiators" (that was in Aquarium (Suvorov)).Biophys (talk) 23:35, 28 June 2009 (UTC)

- Can you suggest other memories of GRU officers? I can only remember books by Suvorov and Lunev.Biophys (talk) 03:47, 30 June 2009 (UTC)

This section needs a major rewrite. It has no references and doesn't read very well. 81.148.219.1 (talk) 10:26, 19 November 2011 (UTC)
- This section could still use a rewrite for grammar. 79.97.40.245 (talk) 16:52, 28 May 2012 (UTC)

- I agree, it was obviously written by a Russian who speaks English, needs an English speaker who speaks Russian to clean it up. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 96.255.1.227 (talk • contribs) 23:00, 22 July 2012 (UTC)

Merge/delete?
As Wikipedia already has separate good-quality articles for both GRU and Spetsnaz, both of which detail the links between the two, I don't really see the point of this one. I'd also warn that while "Viktor Suvorov" is a very good source for anyone wanting to know about the life of a Soviet Motor Rifle officer in the 60s and 70s, when he talks abot anything beyond that he's pretty much just making it up.--FergusM1970Let's play Freckles 18:45, 19 October 2012 (UTC)
- These other two articles are hardly good, and I see no point in even considering merging (why?) not to mention deleting (???). It's also no longer a GRU force. --Niemti (talk) 21:41, 19 October 2012 (UTC)
Merge necessary
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spetsnaz_GRU https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GRU https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spetsnaz
are pretty much the same. separating them causes nothing but confusion.Lugnuthemvar (talk) 16:06, 2 March 2014 (UTC)
- I see you're confused alright. "Spetsnaz" is Russian word meaning "special forces", and GRU is Soviet-Russian military intelligence service. --Niemti (talk) 20:32, 2 March 2014 (UTC)
- I am aware what spetsnaz means, BUT the way it's presented is all over the place and confusing. What I meant with the merger is to have one page about russian special forces, history, branches, commands, et.Lugnuthemvar (talk) 08:12, 3 March 2014 (UTC)
- Whatever is confusing? GRU isn't "russian special forces", it's military intelligence wing of the armed forces. --Niemti (talk) 11:43, 3 March 2014 (UTC)
- You sure are confused. It's like coming with "https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_Navy_SEALs https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_Navy https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_special_operations_forces are pretty much the same. separating them causes nothing but confusion." What exactly caused your confusion? --Niemti (talk) 11:56, 3 March 2014 (UTC)
- No. Separating Spentsnaz Gru from Gru is like separating the [CIA] from the [SAD ]. the difference is, there isn't enough info to go around to justify a separate page. Lugnuthemvar (talk) 12:18, 3 March 2014 (UTC)
- But if you want to stay with the SEALs, it's like saying the [SEALs] aren't part of [United States Naval Special Warfare Command]. they belong on the same page Lugnuthemvar (talk) 12:23, 3 March 2014 (UTC)
- What. --Niemti (talk) 23:02, 22 March 2014 (UTC)
