Does anyone know why this never became an Olympic sport?99.27.108.59 (talk) 20:08, 2 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The first para is self contradictory wrt the speed of sky diving. Does anyone have the expertise to resolve?

  • Terminal velocity of 193 kph is in the belly to earth "standard" skydiving position. Other positions (head down, etc...) allow higher speed, so the paragraph is not self contradictory, but could be stated more clearly. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Jpkoester1 (talkcontribs) 18:27, 17 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Who is the fastest disabled skiier

[edit]

I notice that a John Guilmartin of Kenya is recorded here as the the fastest disabled skier at 213.65kph set on 19 April 2006. I had always understood that that record was set by Michael Milton of Australia.

I note that a whole lot of reference type sites similar to Wikipedia also report the same (Guilmartina t 213.65kph) but glancing through some of it, it all seems to be have been cloned from a comon source. I can find no reference so far for anything about Guilmartin except for these items. (Wikipedia has no page either) I have also found many references but with some variety crediting Milton with the same speed in the same month as well as some articles on his record a year earlier.

Significantly I have also managed however to uncover a reference to Milton dated the day after the record date at http://www.resortjobs.co.uk/do/ecco.py/view_item?listid=9&listcatid=79&listitemid=1457 which seems therefore to me to be close to source, if not the primary source.

Which is the record holder? And who is John Guilmartin? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Colinoldncranky (talkcontribs) 06:43, 6 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The record holder is Michel Milton. The results are here the results of the event where he did the record : http://www.kl-france.com/fichiers/pdf/2006/proarcscratch.pdf John Guilmartin is unknown in speedski. fastest on land/fastest without land contact

[edit]

There reads: It is one of the fastest non-motorized sports on land. with source [1].
The page could not be found anymore, but in the reference section reads this: The fastest non-motorized sport without land contact is speed skydiving, in which divers can reach speeds of over 500 km/h.
How is "fastest without land contact" relevant to quote which tells about "fastest on land"? I would expect fastest non-motorized land-sports given to compare. 85.76.102.33 (talk) 05:11, 8 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Page should use consistent units

[edit]

The page is written in km/h and mph. The units should be converted to km/h and only mentioned as such to follow wiki formatting guidelines. Patate324 (talk) 05:41, 6 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
