Merge and separate proposal

To not merge given no consensus

This article (Special economic zone) , Free trade zone, List of free economic zones, Free economic zone and Bonded logistics park all cover very closely related topics. They are about areas which taxes, customs duties and or tariffs are reduced in a specific area for a specific reason. Different sources use different terms for the 'overarching' catch all term.

For example, the World Banks use 'special economic zone' world bank (page 9)

This report this uses 'export processing zone' report (page 10)

WEPZA (World's First Association of Special Economic Zones) uses the former (although I assume its initials refer to the latter) WEPZA

Another problem is some of the articles are largely lists.

As one of the team that launched the Dubai - Jebel Ali Free Zone I note the errors are terminology in the definition of a FTZ. There are many FTZ in the Middle East (UAE) but they do not necessarily rely on the movement of Physical Goods. In many cases the FTZ's in the UAE are more than subscribed by Office Only Rentals where No physical movements of any freight or cargo or goods.

Proposals

1 - Choose the best catch all term - merge articles under that term and explain the history of the various terms.

2 - Have one descriptive article (as described above) - and one list article (noting the different characteristics and purposes, perhaps in table form).

3 - Where there is a lot of information for a country - give overall and split details to separate country article.

Merging the lists of zones into one sortable table would be useful; we could (debatably) include at least these elements: 1. Name of zone; 2. Country; 3. Type of zone: Export processing, Free, Other.

Having read the 2008 World Bank definition of a special economic zone, I agree there are too many similar zone articles in Wikipedia at the moment. At least Free economic zone, Free trade zone, and Special economic zone could be merged into one.
