Robert Grossman
[edit]The wikilink for Robert Grossman refers to a sculptor and painter. Perhaps this link should be changed to Robert Grossman (researcher)? --Beefyt 15:57, 12 March 2007 (UTC)
November 2012 Updates
[edit]Mr.Ollie -- Please help work with me, and help me be a better wikipedia author. I know that I am a novice wikipedia author. However, can I please ask you not to remove all of the edits that I am making to a variety of pages. I am making them in good faith, and I am trying to follow your coaching to use the TALK pages, sign them, and be as transparent as possible about my relationship to the subject matter on the page I'm editing.
E.g., on the SIGKDD page before I made my Nov-2 edit, the page indicated the future tense that the 2012 KDD conference "will" take place in Beijing. The 2012 conference is now in the past, so I updated that information to indicate that the 2013 KDD conference will take place in Chicago. I also provided a list of where the previous KDD conferences were held. I provided external links to the past conference websites, and internal wiki-links to the city names.
I added this information to the SIGKDD page because I thought it would improve the page, providing readers with more information about SIGKDD and the conferences that the organization holds. I did not ad this material because of any conflict of interest. In the spirit of full disclosure, I want to say that I have been on the paper review committees of several of these conferences, including the 2012 conference, and I was the Sponsorship Chair at a few of the conferences too. I think this information makes me knowledgeable about the conferences but is not a conflict of interest.
If the problem with the material I added to the SIGKDD page is the external links to the conference webpages, I will be happy to remove those links. I have been reading the wikipedia guidelines, and I'm still trying to understand when it's OK to put in external links and when it's not.
Thank you. I appreciate your coaching to help me be a better wikipedia author and to adjust my style of writing to be appropriate for wikipedia. Please work with me to help me. Karl (talk) 19:13, 5 November 2012 (UTC)
I am trying to improve this page. Today I removed a bad 404 external link that was attached to Usama Fayyad's name, and the same bad link that was in a reference to his name.
What do other people think about the wiki-links attached to several people's names who do not have wikipedia entries. E.g., David D. Jensen and Won Kim. Should we create wiki pages for these people, or simply remove the wiki-links on this page, or should we make external links to their university or business page? I'm happy to do the work, but I want to know what other people think we should do here. I'm a novice wikipedia author, and want to make sure that I get coaching from others to modify this page in ways that are most keeping with wikipedia style guidelines. Thanks.
