Errors
[edit]Am I missing something? The section on Savonarola is riddled with embarrassing errors and I can't figure out why it's even here.
1. "However, shortly after this celebration, the leader of the country, Savonarola died from a physician’s misdiagnosis."
Savonarola was "condemned, hanged and burned" after his regime was overthrown in Florence. This is the subject of major works of art.
2. "The country faced widespread poverty and conflict, as Savonarola’s son (and later his son’s replacement) could not support and defend the country."
Savonarola's son did not succeed him. Savonarola did not have a son (he was a friar) and did not hold an office to which a son could succeed him. By the time of Savonarola's death, the Holy League had already overthrown the Florentine republic.
3. "This festival of celebration was in honor of a newly issued Florentine coin, which many believed would bring economic prosperity to the country."
Minor point here, but the "florin" was already a widely known currency and Florence was economically prosperous.
Wikipedia's own entry on Savonarola (which quite good) confirms all of this. I would edit this myself but I cannot even figure out why it is here -- I almost feel like there's a joke I'm not getting. It's a complete fantasy. 8.37.26.85 (talk) 02:50, 2 December 2015 (UTC)
- I agree that the who paragraph in question doesn't make sense; deleted. Klbrain (talk) 19:46, 17 August 2017 (UTC)
