Icelandic character?
[edit]Given the Icelandic origins of many of its people, does Spanish Fork retain any trace of Icelandic character? Does it have any modern links to Iceland? Beorhtwulf (talk) 23:05, 28 February 2011 (UTC)
- Not that I am aware of. There are more blond people than other places in the United States. —Ute in DC (talk) 23:08, 28 February 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks. I've just seen that there's a brief article on Spanish Fork in the Icelandic Wikipedia. It has a sentence that mentions the president: "Þann 26. júní 2005 endurvígði forseti Íslands, Ólafur Ragnar Grímsson, minnisvarða um landnám Íslendinga í Spanish Fork." Did he visit? Send the city a gift? Mention is in a speech? If anyone can translate it would be interesting to know. Beorhtwulf (talk) 23:35, 28 February 2011 (UTC)
- I was born and raised in Spanish Fork and am aware that the President of Iceland visited the city in 2005 to attend the dedication of the Icelandic Memorial. A close friend of mine coordinated the visit and I'm going to reach out to him and his wife to see if they have news clippings or other documentation that could be useful sources for understanding the Iceland/Spanish Fork connection. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Tjbliss (talk • contribs) 20:31, 30 November 2018 (UTC)
- Also, there are still very strong connections between Iceland and Spanish Fork. I believe Rejakjavik and Spanish Fork are formally "sister cities." There is an annual "Iceland Days" event hosted by the Utah Icelandic Association. http://www.utahicelanders.org/events.html Tjbliss (talk) 20:47, 30 November 2018 (UTC)

2019 Cleanup
[edit]Most of this article is encyclopedic, but needs changes to grammar, tone, and POV. Some items are written like advertisements and need to be made neutral. Some items, like noting local businesses, are very out of date. Many links are broken due to a city website redesign, but can be recovered via the Wayback Machine and finding the new permanent links on the new city website. I will make my way line-by-line through the article over the next few weeks to confirm sources and fix the writing. Drivec (talk) 17:04, 8 April 2019 (UTC)
