While
[edit]While there were some preliminary sentences and an image on this page, it was primarly blank. I have added substantially to the organization of the page, setting up various categories to be expanded in the future as well as listed terms, organizations, educational degrees and programs, as well as individuals relevant to the field. I have added this page to the History of Science WikiProject, of which I am a member.

Cut & Paste Job?
[edit]Does this look like its just a cut and paste from a FAQ somewhere? The topics phrased as questions, and the rather useless bullet points on how NASA made folding walkers possible.

Merge proposal
[edit]Oppose merge from Space nursing. Nursing and medicine are two different fields. jsfouche ☽☾Talk 02:09, 24 April 2012 (UTC)
- That article was barely a paragraph sourced with maybe 40 sources, no need for a separate article. CFCF (talk) 11:16, 13 January 2014 (UTC)
- Will be merged again, it has no value on its own in the state it is in, whatsoever. CFCF (talk) 13:16, 13 January 2014 (UTC)
- Oppose Nursing and medicine are not the same. Nursing is not a subcategory of Medicine. The article needs expansion, not merged. There was no consensus before, so do not merge until there is a clear and obvious consensus. jsfouche ☽☾Talk 17:04, 13 January 2014 (UTC)
SupportIn all sincerity it seems we have consensus for a merge. We have 2 supporting votes, mine and the person who decided to suggest the merge. It is far better to combine the articles, and to later split them if they have enough content to split. As of now that article is as I stated barely a paragraph.CFCF (talk) 05:35, 14 January 2014 (UTC)- Support withdrawn, article has been expanded. CFCF (talk) 19:41, 24 January 2014 (UTC)

Needs work
[edit]The article needs a lot of work. The sections needed some re-organizing (I've started on that), the definition is way too narrow (it's not only what happens in space; most of space medicine is years of study and preparation on how to keep humans alive and well in space, not just during the few hours of a 3-orbit mission. The history section is almost empty; I've created a rumps section for Project Mercury, and plan to expand it using Mills (1965) and other sources, and then we should continue on with other programs. And the History section should contain subsections for Soviet and other countries' efforts, or else, it should be chronological, with all countries mixed in. Suggested Improvements
[edit]This article seems to be lacking a lot of information. Within the History Section there is mention of specific space programs, but only mentions Project Mercury, and does not explain it's significance. It could be expanded with more missions. Many sections lack citations: Ultrasound in space, Feasibility of long duration space flight, or Impact on science and medicine. For the most part this article lacks information on the progress made by space organizations other than NASA. Article also lacks mention of recent missions --Sweiler99 (talk) 16:48, 18 February 2022 (UTC)
- I will be adding in the X-15 section, to start fleshing out the history of this topic. Sweiler99 (talk) 15:25, 8 April 2022 (UTC)
History Section is lacking, especially when it comes to Project Mercury and other early projects such as Gemini and Apollo are not even mentioned. There are a few topics that have information with no or very few citations. I would also like to add the common questions of what would happen to the human body in space during the Mercury missions and how and when they answered them. Adding to Pre-Mercury through Apollo Section
[edit]I will be adding information about "talking wheelchairs" or Versatile Portable Speech Prosthesis or VSP from the Final Report: Research and Development of a Versatile Portable Speech Prosthesis with NASA from 1978. The information that I will be adding gives a basic overview of the project of VSP, the motivation behind the project, and who the project was initially intended for. Epbvx6 (talk) 15:19, 8 April 2022 (UTC) epbvx6
- I also will be adding some information about Project Mercury, mostly pertaining to adverse health affects and how mental health was a major concern. Additionally, I have added some information on the animal testing that was done by both the Russians and the United States that led to Mercury. Mjpfmk (talk) 15:51, 8 April 2022 (UTC)
I will be adding a picture of Dr. Stephen Hawking and his VSP from Wikipedia Commons and also added a citation where the photo is originally from. I also added a caption explaining how Dr. Hawking used the VSP with a thumb switch and a blink-switch on his glasses. Epbvx6 (talk) 15:25, 15 April 2022 (UTC)epbvx6
I will be adding some information about SSR and sEMG in relation to VSP. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Epbvx6 (talk • contribs) 15:47, 22 April 2022 (UTC)
