Soviet Championship League → Soviet Hockey Championship – There were many Soviet leagues/championships: basketball, handball, football and so on. Please propose better name with word 'hockey' obviously. Maybe Soviet League (ice hockey), or Soviet Hockey League. NickSt (talk) 01:27, 1 June 2013 (UTC)

• Comment. Yes, there were different Soviet leagues, but per WP:COMMONAME, article titles are based on what is commonly used by reliable sources. We do not change it merely because it may be unclear to some readers at first glance, especially when there are no reliable sources that also put "hockey" in its title too. If reliable sources also just refer to it as "Soviet Championship League", then that is what the title should be for this page (the lack of references currently on this article is an entirely different issue). If no reliable sources refer to it as "Soviet Hockey Championship", then the Wikipedia article should not either. It is the job of the first sentence of the article to put the topic of the article into proper context, and clarify that this was an ice hockey league. Not every sports league has its sport in its name, like the Dominican Summer League, Belgian Pro League and the Bangladesh Premier League, even though there may be several summer leagues in the Dominican Republic, more than one "pro" leagues in Belgium, or a few "premier" leagues in Bangladesh. Soviet League (ice hockey) would also be an improper name per the disambiguation guidelines because there is no primary topic or disambiguation page for the term "Soviet League". • I would have to oppose as well, this is what the league is most commonly called I believe in sources. If there were other articles on the wiki with the same name we might have to then have a talk about primary topic. But I think it should remain as is. -DJSasso (talk) 14:52, 10 June 2013 (UTC)
• Please see template {{Top sport leagues in the Soviet Union}}. Almost all articles are in the next format: "Soviet (sports) Championship". For example: Soviet Water Polo Championship, Soviet Women's Handball Championship, Soviet Women's Basketball Championship, Soviet Figure Skating Championships. Now I offer Soviet Hockey Championship (as full equivalent of ru:Чемпионат СССР по хоккею) - is it normal name? NickSt (talk) 18:55, 12 June 2013 (UTC)

Note the small h in those sources. They are using hockey as a descriptor not a proper noun. Since we don't have any other article called this and since its declared right in the beginning of the article what it is talking about then we don't need to make up a name. -DJSasso (talk) 12:25, 14 June 2013 (UTC)

It was never called a "league". It was just called the Championship. Note, there is no any references for the article's current name, Soviet Championship League. It wasn't a league, only championship. NickSt (talk) 12:46, 16 June 2013 (UTC)

It was always called a league over here in North America in English speaking countries regardless of what it was called in the Soviet Union.. -DJSasso (talk) 12:52, 17 June 2013 (UTC)

Title of the article

• Discussion was closed, but problem is actual. No any references for "Soviet Championship League", present name of the main article. But category was named Category:Soviet Hockey League, another variant. Subcategory is Category:Soviet League seasons, third variant, and season articles are in format 1946–47 Soviet League season. And I don't understand why the right (and most referenced) name Soviet Hockey Championship was declined. NickSt (talk) 10:52, 30 June 2013 (UTC)

Who "belonged" to what ?

That CSKA was related to the Army is rather well known. I may be wrong here, but it ought to be made clear.

• CSKA - Army
• Torpedo - Navy
• Soviet's Wings (Moscow only ?) - Air Force
• Dynamo - factory workers
• Tractor - farmers (at Kolchoses/Sovchoses) ?
• Locomotive - transport workers
• Spartak - ? KGB ?
