I also have some feedback, Donnanz. You write: Within the county were the city of Invercargill, where the county headquarters was located, and the boroughs of Bluff, Winton, Gore and Mataura, and the town district of Wyndham; Lumsden, on the boundary with Wallace County, had its own boundary. I'm not entirely sure what it is that you are saying but I suspect that you've got your wires crossed. Firstly, post-1876, areas either belonged to a county or a borough. Boroughs were not part of counties; they were a different form of authority. Secondly, there was a Borough of Invercargill from 1871 to 1930, and that's missing from your list. County headquarters were often located in an adjacent borough but as I said before, that does not make the county belong to that borough. Could you maybe go back and rephrase the prose so that these issues become clear? Schwede66 20:55, 8 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Schwede66: I have seen your name around quite a few times. Yes, Invercargill was a borough, and there was also at one time a borough of South Invercargill, which was absorbed into the borough or city of Invercargill, I think that happened in the 1920s or 1930s, further research probably needed. The SCC HQ was in Clyde Street. I was born in Invercargill, and we lived outside the city in Otatara until I was about 18. I still remember where the boundary post was, between Invercargill and Otatara. I agree that Invercargill was not part of Southland County, but it was surrounded by the county. I think the boundary followed the north and east sides of the estuary. I will try to make the wording clearer. Donnanz (talk) 21:47, 8 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
That's awesome! And you will find South Invercargill listed here. And East and North Invercargill, btw. Schwede66 21:53, 8 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Schwede66: And Avenal. That's interesting, I remember Avenal Street, which like Ythan Street where we lived later, seems to be the only one in the world. 1956 for Sth. In'gill, hmm, I was in the land of the living (born 1947), but too young to appreciate it. Donnanz (talk) 22:31, 8 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Crikey. Invercargill people were super-keen to have their own boroughs, eh? That's astonishing. Schwede66 22:33, 8 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Schwede66: Yeah, a lot happened in In'gill's 1st century. I have revised the wording, hopefully clearer now. You might like to cast your eye over Menzies Ferry, the only other Southland article I have written. This has history too, being deleted and reinstated.
