Needs a rewrite
[edit]The Southbridge and Blackstone existed as a company from 1849-1853. Its initial line, between Blackstone to Mechanicsville was completed by the Boston and New York Central Railroad. The Southbridge extension doesn't open until 1866-1867, under the auspices of the Boston, Hartford and Erie Railroad. The Southbridge Branch (New England) (later running track) describes the line between Southbridge and East Thompson which joined the Midland line of the New Haven (which probably should be split from Franklin Line, but that's another matter). - @Mackensen: This has been on my radar/todo list for a while. The line to Southbridge was abandoned almost 20 years ago and this article is in a sorry state. Since this comment popped up on my watchlist, I can probably work on this today or tomorrow, now that I've gotten my new article on the original Housatonic Railroad in decent shape. - Yeah, definitely needs a split between the Willimantic–Putnam–Mechanicsville–Blackstone line and the Southbridge Branch. The question is what to name the former article, since "Southbridge and Blackstone Railroad" is geographically inaccurate and was gone as a corporate name before the line was completed. How to divide up the NY&NE mainlines and corporate names is not an easy question; I'll start a thread at NY&NE about it. Pi.1415926535 (talk) 18:59, 15 April 2023 (UTC)
- The NY&NE article is a massive amount of railroads shoved into a single article; this is how SPUI structured several of the articles on "consolidator" railroads when he originally wrote them. I think a standalone article on the Boston, Hartford and Erie Railroad may be the solution (and we also really should have one on the Hartford, Providence and Fishkill Railroad while we're at it).
