D Hondt Entitlement
[edit]Is there a sum you can do the D Hondt Entitlement as I being doing working out, there are 11 seats in total in South Wales West 7 constituency and 4 regional so I did 11×39.5% =4.345 seats for labour why round it up to 5 seats are allocated and not round it down to 4 Japhes5005 (talk) 13:53, 13 April 2021 (UTC)
I've just come here to correct that same thing! You're quite right, that one rounds down to multiples of a quota for d'Hondt. I've used a computer program, and found 3 other errors in wikipedia's regional assembly pages (others were NW in 1999 & 2003, and SWC in 2003). But for a single d'H election, it's easy enough to do by trial and error; there will be a range of quota values that give the right total of seats. Here it's easy to spot that 10,000 will do (gives Lab 5, and each of PC, Con & LD 2 seats, which gives the right total of 11 for the region.) If you increase the quota, the first to lose a seat is LD at anything above 10113, if you decrease it the first to gain a seat is Lab at 9724, so (9725,10113) is the range of quotas that give the right total of seats.
