Route in progress

[edit]

I am making the route more flexible in line with the North Circular and other major route descriptions. This means taking away the table. I am also changing the direction of the route to keep it in line with the direction of the North Circular. This is a work in progress, and the current state is not intended to reflect the finished product. SilkTork 23:17, 23 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It would be nice if you finished it with the section through to Kew again. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 193.30.232.1 (talk) 13:34, 16 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.

The result of the move request was: moved per the alternate suggestion. The consensus that there is primary topic so this article will be moved to South Circular Road, London and the dab page will be moved to the base location. Jenks24 (talk) 16:04, 5 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

– The Dublin SCR appears to be more significant due to its association with the Jewish community and other historical events. A straight search for book and news coverage gives prominence to the Dublin version. The London SCR is notable, but as a bodge job of urban streets, it does not have the same historical significance. While viewing figures show this article to have about 8 times as many views as the Dublin SCR, I can't help thinking some of those are people coming here by mistake. As a second choice, South Circular Road (disambiguation) could become the main page if there is no obvious primary topic. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 11:43, 18 August 2015 (UTC) Relisted. • Alternate use the alternate suggestion, move the London topic, and move the disambiguation page South Circular Road (disambiguation) to "South Circular Road" -- 67.70.32.190 (talk) 05:26, 19 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose or maybe support second choice as per the anon above. The Dublin road is certainly not more significant than the London one; whether the London one is more significant is debatable. The Dublin road may have more historical significance as a road, but the London one is almost certainly far better known. -- Necrothesp (talk) 13:03, 19 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support IP's Alternate such an anonymous title does not seem to deserve ANY 'primary', consistency suggests the 'London' move, who knows how many other places may end up having a 'S. Circular Rd.'. Pincrete (talk) 16:34, 20 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • support but make a disambiguation page. hardly anyone in london knows of the s. circular anyways, as it's more of a route, not a proper road like the north ciruclar. ~~ipuser 90.192.101.114 (talk) 23:40, 20 August 2015 (UTC)--edit, I changed from oppose to support as I meant support, just made a mistake. Continuning on that, no, I don't think the Irish one is any more notable than the London S. Circular, but it's a road, I doubt very much people in Hertsforshire are familiar with the South Circular. It should be "South Circular Road, London" if for nothing else than it's not a big enough topic to be notable north of the river Thames (or heck, south of the North Downs) ~~ipuser 90.192.101.114 (talk) 06:50, 21 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
    • Actually, I should imagine most people in London have heard of it. As well as many other people in Britain. -- Necrothesp (talk) 13:17, 21 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
      • That is still a very very small section of the global population of english speakers. I think that most people have heard of "Broadway" and will think of the street in NYC, but it's still listed as "Broadway (Manhattan)". What is the difference here, if any, Necrosthesp, that makes it easier for the entirety of the world to know which street this is? Cheers, ~~ipuser 90.192.101.114 (talk) 08:49, 24 August 2015 (UTC) --edit conflict.[reply]
        • Actually the reason it's Broadway (Manhattan) is because "Broadway" more often means the theatreland in general than the street itself. WP:PRIMARYTOPIC is quite clear that things don't need disambiguation if they are the primary topic, no matter what country they're in. However, as I've already said, I don't have a problem with adding the word "London". I was merely answering your claim that "hardly anyone in london knows of the s. circular anyways", which is, frankly, rubbish. As is "I doubt very much people in Hertsforshire are familiar with the South Circular". I don't come from London - I'm familiar with it! -- Necrothesp (talk) 09:34, 24 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose, the London road is much better known, and notable for its curious construction from existing streets. Millions of Londoners and others are only too well aware of the South Circular and its traffic jams. Chiswick Chap (talk) 04:35, 21 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
That's exactly what I thought, but having tried to beef up the history section I keep getting false positives for the Dublin version when searching for sources, which is why I started this discussion. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 08:49, 27 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
