Ship Society of South Africa
[edit]The Ship Society was formed in 1973, following 20 years of being the Cape Town Branch of the World Ship Society. It has as its main purpose the stimulation of interest in ships and shipping and bringing together people with this mutual interest. The Society also aims to preserve the history of shipping in S.A. The Ship Society rooms contain a treasure trove of shipping memorabilia. The vast library of books, videos and DVDs have been the source of many research projects being done in this field. It is a great pity that in this fast moving world of today, the preservation in S.A. of that which came into being in the past, is under threat of being lost. We have a wealth of treasure in the history of shipping in S.A. This fact should provide each of us with the incentive to preserve this shipping history. website: www.shipsociety.co.za —Preceding unsigned comment added by 165.145.125.94 (talk) 13:51, 11 February 2010 (UTC)
