[edit]As accustomed in the American culture, "salad to cheesecake" is a comparable expression to the English idiom, "Soup to nuts", which means "from beginning to end" as stated in the article "Soup to nuts". This American expression is derived from people who regularly eat at Cheesecake Factory. Salad signifies the beginning of the meal as being the first item ordered, and cheesecake signifies the end of the meal in the same manner.
Actually a more, ahem, digestive metaphor popped in my mind.
[edit]Of course it only really applies to the male of our species. Nevertheless, without some sort of definitive and verifiable starting point to this saying, the more vulgar imagery remains. Call it a sickness. Monoblocks (talk) 00:10, 31 January 2009 (UTC)

Nuts
[edit]I first read this phrase in PG Wodehouse, who may have picked it up in the USA. At formal dinners I have been to in the UK nuts are eaten at the end of dinner with Ruby Port. The dryness of the nuts is offset by the sweetness of the wine. Pamour (talk) 22:52, 7 May 2017 (UTC)
