Message
[edit]I'm quite surprised that here's no information and discussion about the message of this song. It's all figures and charts, but nothing about the message. Isn't that the most important thing in the song? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 217.25.116.50 (talk) 23:51, 31 March 2013 (UTC)
- IF you know of any message of the song let us know and with a reference, it will be added. —Indian:BIO · [ ChitChat ] 05:20, 1 April 2013 (UTC)
Songs on Mexican Charts
[edit]Madonna is one of the very few non-latino artists to top the Mexican Music Charts and this song happened to do so. Why is there no mention of it in the charts section? It hit number one. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.39.226.133 (talk) 20:58, 13 September 2009 (UTC)
Samples
[edit]There are NO samples in Sorry at all. Please do not write this again or you will be banned from editing for posting fake information.
- Her producer said they sampled the Jackson 5 on "Sorry", and the song itself is proof that they sampled the bassline from "Can You Feel It?". The only thing is it's not as noticable in "Sorry" as it is in "Material Girl", where she blantantly stole the bassline from CYFI.Street walker 11:59, 19 January 2006 (UTC)
They are all rumours, The bassline is based on the song but is NOT exactly the same. You are wrong deal with it and do NOT paste fake information. How are people supposed to know what is going on? Stuart Price has not said they sampled Jackson 5 he has been quoted as well as Madonna in saying that they "LISTENED" to Jackson 5 as well as others! The ONLY sample on the whole album Confessions on a Dancefloor is "Hung Up" Please do not do this again as it is wrong and legal action could be comissioned.
- So they "listened" to it, and drew inspiration from it? That's a nice way of saying they stole it. Legal action can't be taken because someone things a song sounds like another song, give me a break. But I do tell you this, if Madonna doesn't re-issue the album and single with credit going to Michael and Jackie Jackson's "Can You Feel It", then she should expect legal action against her.Street walker 23:44, 19 January 2006 (UTC)
- She didn't, so there. Paul75 21:24, 26 March 2007 (UTC)
Did not steel, Used as a template. The sound is different to the song CYFI. That is all its finnished. Michael Jackson can not sue as it is different enough. Songs are allowed to be similar. Michael Jackson will not even notice he is dead to the world atm. You will be able to be sued for making accusations that are not true. Check with Californian law!
As if Material Girl is anything like CYFI you really must be Deaf or really really un-educated.
- Either you are deaf and uneducated, or you haven't heard the songs in question.
Street walker 23:44, 19 January 2006 (UTC)
- Tenous similarity like a lot of pop songs sound similiarPaul75 21:26, 26 March 2007 (UTC)
Can confirm there are no offical samples used on this song (ref UK MCPS licensing). However the bassline bears a closer resemblance to "Substance" by Dot Allison than the Jackson 5 work discussed above. --Katstevens 14:14, 28 April 2006 (UTC)
New Single cover
[edit]Hi I updated some information and cleaned up a little. The single cover image has to be replaced I do not know how to change it as someone has removed it. The proper cover is also available.
In the song madonna sings:Ik ben dronken, which means:I'm drunk, she wanted to say:Ik ben droevig, which means:I'm sad,but that isn't the right translation for the word sorry,The right translation for I'm sorry is:Het spijt me
Next time, sign talk pages with four pintas at the end of your statement...72.130.198.232 And proper punctation...
- That wasn't me, but I added the same information to the article. --Halal 14:21, 22 November 2005 (UTC)
- P.S. She butchers the Polish pronunciation of "Przepraszam" too, although it doesn't really lead to funny results. --Halal 21:47, 22 November 2005 (UTC)
- I'm hardly surprised. Even a first-year Japanese student would notice the weird and potentially slightly incoherent way she pronounces "gomen nasai", too...
- ... in case you're curious to the level of tolerating pedanticness: she adds or removes syllable stops at near-random and adds an extra syllable. The way she actually pronounces it would be rendered like this in your usual non-Hepburn romanization systems: "gomena sa ai", and in hiragana would have a syllable stop marker (a half-size "tsu" symbol) in between the "sa" and "ai" parts - quite a difference in Japanese, believe it or not. Note the fact that she not only removes the natural syllable stop between the "gomen" and "nasai" portions (which depending on the phrase or word, is sometimes a big deal and sometimes not, given it's sometimes the only phonetic difference between two very different words, but is also the kind of thing that tends to get dropped from languages over time by lazy tongues. In this case, she's lucky - I think, at least - as from what I've been able to look up so far, the lack of the syllable stop isn't as grievous a mistake in this case, and from listening to at least some Japanese native speakers, they often seem to drop it or emphasize it less in speech when saying it quickly)... she actually seems to move the syllable stop to later in the word actually, to between the "na" and "sa" (this may or may not entirely be bad form - to be frank, all the "proper" romanized spellings I've seen don't seem to include the extra "s" that would be customary to represent a syllable stop in it, but I've seen a lot of people romanize it with two "s" as well, which could easily lead to confusion. As far as I know, there's no syllable stop there normally... but then again, my textbook is so shitty it doesn't even list the phrase in the index or in the common phrases taught in early chapters. Needless to say, my professor is prepping to switch to a different book!). She also says "sa ai" instead of "sai"; probably under the odd but oddly common assumption that "i" in romanization would be pronounced the way the letter "I"'s phonetic name is in English (something that gives at least some newbies to the language some trouble when their background is entirely English-language; there's a kid I know in a second-year class that still does it all the time); it's closer in pronunciation to the way we say the phonetic name of the letter "E" in our language, though (like the way Spanish speakers would pronounce the letter, pretty much). A more correct way to break apart the last three syllables would have been "na sa i", since in the phonetic syllabaries, the "sa" and "i" parts are separate characters; they blend into "sai" (pronounced fairly similarly to the English word "sigh") when the "syllables" aren't each pronounced separately. Basically, she's pronouncing it extremely oddly, and while I suppose it's probably not completely incoherent to a native speaker (at least on repeat listenings, at any rate...), and while I don't think it ends up saying anything else in specific... she does kind of mangle the poor thing, and I'm positive it would sound even more painfully awkward to native ears than mine! (The worst part is, I actually really like the song as a whole, but I always manage to notice the awkward pronunciation on that one phrase, and it always seems to bug me at least a little). Oh, and...
- For the record, in English at least, the term for the ~ mark is actually a "tilde". Is "pinta" a foreign translation (or vice versa) of "tilde" or were you confusing it for a different mark or something? 70.118.80.144 (talk) 08:13, 27 March 2008 (UTC)
released in december....?
[edit]this sounds highly unlikely
i mean , hung up was only released in november , and a new single the next month seems far too soon , i think that much be a mistake , i mean , the video hans't even been filmed yet and it has 3 weeks (at this point in time) until release in austaralia.......
singles are normally released every 3 months , witch makes feburary 2006 a much more likely release time than december 15th
and why would it be released on december 15th in australia , but 2 months later in the uk.....she has more sucess in the uk, so why delay a release there? , plus why release an australian release date , but not even one for the usa? , this sounds fake to me.....
and where esactly was all this "confirmed"......?
This has not been "confirmed" it is an observation of a report in an Australian newspaper. Sorry started airplay on the 24th November in Australia in preparation for its release. As to why it is released first in Australia before the rest of the world I can not answer. Generally singles are 3 months apart... there is no rule saying they can't be a month apart. Madonna is very successful in Australia. The video is being filmed in London.... the Hung up Video was filmed days before its release.
Song sample
[edit]---> "The song samples the bass line of the Michael and Jackie Jackson penned, "Can You Feel It", from the Jackson's 1984 release, Victory."
I have removed this until someone can confirm that this song is sampled. The album notes do not credit it and as far as I know Madonna hasn't confirmed the sample. Underneath-it-All 03:53, 22 December 2005 (UTC)
- The wrong information comes from journalists at The Sun. They compared Madonnas album tracks with known songs and noticed that "Sorry" has a similar bass line - but not the same. --Red-Blue-White 12:45, 22 December 2005 (UTC)
- Thanks! So we'll keep that off the page. Underneath-it-All 20:57, 22 December 2005 (UTC)
Here's the link to the article that confirms the Michael Jackson info. Madonna uses Michael Jackson sample, Fox news
Though it was from the "Triumph" album, not Victory, and written in '81, not '84...
- This article is about the rumours before the album came out (Sunday, October 23, 2005). Someone reported "Sorry" would sound like "Can you feel it" and the newspapers published first that the Jacksons would sing background and later that there's a sample. Both is wrong. If there was a sample in "Sorry" it would be credited like the ABBA sample. That's it. --Red-Blue-White 05:47, 23 December 2005 (UTC)
official release date
[edit]warner bros belgium have announced that sorry will be released on monday 20th feburary in europe, it does not mention the australian and u.s release dates
i got this info from www.madonnalicious.com under the article "sorry release date" (from feburary 6th)
Single cover changed again
[edit]How many known single covers exist for "Sorry"? We cannot have it constantly changing in the template. However, if there are two major single cover releases for the song, I find it appropraite to place the standard one in the template. Solar Serenity 01:41, 14 January 2006 (UTC)
Music vid.
[edit]I gave the info about the vid a bit of an update :) Is what I changed OK?
"The single's video was directed by Madonna's longtime choreographer, Jamie King. Many of the performers featured in Madonna's "Hung Up" video are in her "Sorry" one."
languages list
[edit]I've been adding the list of performed languages. It is just the ones I understood, I know it is incomplete, I cannot put the correct template, sorry. Thanks for helping :) --Sailko 07:39, 18 February 2006 (UTC)
On the language subject, the Hebrew is wrong. The word Sleecha means excuse me (like what you say when you want someones attention) not forgiveness. The word for forgiveness goes along the lines of "Mechilah". There is S'lach lanu which means forgive us... (Spanglish 20:56, 4 March 2006 (UTC))
Not a regular Wikipedia user, I don't have an ID or anything like that. "Sleecha" is listed as meaning 'Pardon, forgiveness' in the Oxford English-Hebrew, Hebrew-English Dictionary (Kernemann - Lonnie Kahn, 1995) - so it does mean forgiveness. As for "Mechilah", are you confused with 'Machal' (mem, het, lamed) - 'forgive, pardon' ? And if you want someone's attention wouldn't you be more likely to say "bevakashah" - you say sleecha if you are expecting forgivenes - its like saying sorry!
An example of sleecha in everyday usage would go along the lines of "Sleecha, At mevinah Engleet?"(Spanglish 00:15, 7 July 2006 (UTC))
The saying between Hindi and Hebrew is not even close to Polish Przepraszam. Actually it is said in Lithuanian Išeik prašau (Please leave). The pronunciation would be something like ish-eyck prah-show. Peace :) (KishKiai 16:43, 30 March 2006 (UTC))
No, it's said in Polish but she says "Prze-prasom". It written in the original text.
- This all shows the sloppiness of Stuart Price as a producer and the album as a whole. Couldn't they have spent more than 25 seconds looking up translations? PatrickJ83 23:28, 10 April 2006 (UTC)
- Yes, I'm not so sure that they wanted Madonna to be singing "I am drunk"... —Eternal Equinox | talk 02:47, 14 April 2006 (UTC)
The equivalent of "Lo siento" in Portuguese is not "O sinto" (that would translate into something like "I feel it") but "Sinto muito", literally "I feel much" but meaning "I'm sorry". I'm that remark from the article. Not signed up yet, will do it soon. 89.155.56.45 15:30, 21 March 2007 (UTC)
Are you sure that the Irish Language is also present in the song? I can't really hear it after the english one ... 213.235.225.91 (talk) 10:12, 8 December 2007 (UTC)
4.3m?
[edit]Has 'Sorry' sold 4.3 million? We all know it was a big worldwide hit, but 4.3 is a lot, unless you include ringtones?
- Without references, it's unknown. Velten 18:30, 1 October 2006 (UTC)
Canadian Charts
[edit]"It was Madonna's first single not to enter the Canadian Singles Chart and peaked at number fifty-three."
I have serious doubt that Sorry only went #53 on Canadian charts. Digital sales peaked at #2 and Airplay peaked at #7. [1]
Could somebody clear this out? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.68.120.67 (talk) 16:04, 11 August 2008 (UTC)

PSB Remix sample
[edit]The article contains the line "Among the various remixes, the Pet Shop Boys remix incorporated Whitney Houston's "I Wanna Dance with Somebody (Who Loves Me)" with a more pronounced bassline and uses a double breakdown in the introduction"...however the reference listed didn't actually mention this topic, and there's no evidence this is true. There are no additional songwriting credits on the single, or on the PSB album "Disco 4" which also features their remix - just Madonna/Tennant/Lowe - if they had sampled something else it would have been credited. Granted, the remix does open with a "rat-a-tat-tat" sound similar to that used on the Houston song, but that's just a generic cowbell sound from a Roland TR-808 which has been used on MANY songs from the 80s and 90s - it's not even the same rhythm or in the same key.
